Tags
Tags are IMAP keywords. They are stored on the server next to the message rather than in the browser, so a tag you set here is there on your phone, and a tag set in another client is there in Tachyon.
Open a message and use the tag icon above it. The menu lists the tags the folder allows, with a tick against the ones already on the message.
Five are always offered, named and coloured the way Thunderbird names and colours them:
| Key | Tag | Keyword |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Important | $label1 |
| 2 | Work | $label2 |
| 3 | Personal | $label3 |
| 4 | To Do | $label4 |
| 5 | Later | $label5 |
Because they are the same keywords, mail you tagged in Thunderbird arrives here already tagged, and the other way round.
Press 1 to 5 to toggle one of those five. Press 0 to take all five off.
The keys work in the message list and in an open message. They act on every checked message, or on the selected one when nothing is checked, and they do nothing while the cursor is in the search box or any other field.
On a mixed selection the tag goes on: it only comes off when every message in the selection already has it.
Tags you made yourself have no key. Use the menu.
"New tag" at the foot of the menu asks for a name and puts it on the open message. The name travels to the server as a keyword, so spaces and backslashes are dropped, and so is a leading $, because that prefix is reserved by RFC 5788 for keywords clients agree on between themselves.
Once a keyword has been used in a folder the server reports it, and from then on it is in the menu for every message there.
Clients write private keywords of their own, and they accumulate: $has_cal, $HighImportance, $labelimportant, LoadRemoteImages, and whatever the next client invents. Tachyon does not offer those, because they are not yours to set and it has no idea what they mean. Nothing is removed. They stay on the message and the client that cares about them carries on seeing them.
keyword= searches for one, named the way the server names it:
keyword=$label2&unseen
The advanced search form has a field for it as well. See Searching.
The menu appears only where the server says the folder takes arbitrary keywords, which it does by including \* in the folder's PERMANENTFLAGS. A server that allows no keywords, or a folder that allows only the standard flags, has no tag menu and no five labels, and there is nothing Tachyon can do about that from its side.
