Post v1.0.0 - Initial Release

Post is a free Windows desktop editor for video, audio, images, graphics, and GIFs. This first public release brings together a layered timeline, responsive project preview, keyframe animation, graphics tools, effects, and FFmpeg-powered exports in one approachable desktop application.

Download and install

  1. Download Post-Setup-1.0.0.exe
  2. Run the installer.
  3. Optionally create a desktop shortcut.
  4. Open Post from the Start menu or desktop.

or (for Portable)

  1. Download Post-1.0.0.zip
  2. Extract the folder.
  3. Run Post.exe.

Post supports 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. FFmpeg and ffprobe are included, so no separate media tools are required.

Note

This early community release may not be code-signed. If Windows SmartScreen appears, verify that the installer was downloaded from the official Post GitHub release before selecting More info → Run anyway.

Highlights

Layered editing

  • Independent video, audio, and graphics layers.
  • Drag-and-drop placement from the Media panel.
  • Multi-select Media items using normal Windows Ctrl and Shift selection.
  • Split, trim, move, copy, paste, remove, and reposition clips without modifying source files.
  • Duplicate a complete layer or duplicate one clip to a new layer at the same timeline position.
  • Rename, resize, reorder, show/hide, mute, and delete layers.
  • Endpoint snapping and overlap-aware clip placement.
  • Zoom-aware thumbnail filmstrips and detailed audio waveforms.
  • Independent left/right audio waveform rows and channel muting.

Accurate preview and navigation

  • Separate red playback caret and white editing caret.
  • Current composition frame appears while scrubbing, even before playback begins.
  • Preview the whole project, one layer, one timeline clip, or an item directly from Media.
  • Frame-by-frame navigation using the mouse wheel or arrow keys.
  • Selected clips display project and source timestamps beneath the mouse pointer.
  • Visibility and mute controls can be changed without restarting playback.

Text, images, colors, and gradients

The new + Graphic menu supports:

  • Text using installed Windows fonts, including font previews.
  • Images with optional aspect-ratio locking.
  • Solid-color graphics.
  • Linear and radial two-color gradients with adjustable angles.

Graphics begin at the white edit caret, receive their own layers by default, and support positioning, resizing, timeline trimming, duplication, opacity, alignment snapping, and animation.

Keyframes and effects

  • Animate Position X, Position Y, Scale, Opacity, and Volume.
  • Linear, Discrete/Hold, and Smooth interpolation.
  • Signed values for movement in either direction.
  • Dedicated property-row keyframe timeline.
  • Previous/next keyframe navigation.
  • Configurable Fade In, Fade Out, Slide In, Zoom In/Out, and Audio Fade In/Out effects.
  • Effects produce editable keyframes that can be refined afterward.

Export options

  • Export complete layered video compositions.
  • Export audio only while ignoring visual layers.
  • Lossless stream-copy mode when compatible with the requested edit.
  • Encoded exports with adjustable quality, bitrate, speed, and volume.
  • 20 MB, 10 MB, and custom-size targets.
  • Animated GIF export and quick GIF creation from a selected clip.
  • Source-resolution PNG screenshots copied to the Windows clipboard.

Projects and application features

  • Native .post project files with legacy .clipedit compatibility.
  • Multiple open project tabs and recent-project history.
  • Desktop File / Edit / View / Tools / Help menu.
  • Undo and redo for timeline and project edits.
  • Resizable Media, preview, timeline, and layer-header panels.
  • Adjustable project working time and optional black tail rendering.
  • Windows file association for .post projects.
  • In-app update checks through https://download.post.lastweeksproject.com.
  • Official Post icon, About window, website link, and repository link.

Getting started

  1. Add video, audio, or image files using the + button in Media.
  2. Drag Media items into the Layers area.
  3. Move the white caret and press C to split a selected clip.
  4. Add titles or other visuals through + Graphic.
  5. Press Space to preview the composition.
  6. Open Export Settings, then choose Export Video or Export Audio.
  7. Save the editable project with Ctrl+S.

Important notes

  • .post files reference original media files instead of embedding them. Moving or deleting source files can make them unavailable to a saved project.
  • Lossless stream-copy exports can only begin on encoded video keyframes. Use an encoded export when the first frame must be exact.
  • Some formats require a temporary Windows-compatible preview proxy. Post leaves the original media untouched and uses it for final export.
