v0.2.0-alpha
Syptek v0.2.0
Find in page, a Settings page, smarter tab sleep, and a big round of ad blocker fixes.
✨ New
Find in page (Ctrl+F)
- A small find bar with a match counter (
3/12). Enter/Shift+EnterorF3/Shift+F3for next / previous,Escto close.- Closes when you switch tabs, and highlights clear when a page navigates.
- Uses no memory while it is closed.
Settings page (hamburger menu → Settings, or syptek://settings)
- Free up disk space: clear the web cache, code & graphics cache, offline site files and ad blocker filter cache, with the size of each shown. These clear immediately.
- Careful with accounts: clearing cookies & logins or site data always asks for confirmation first, because it can sign you out.
- Web cache limit: cap the cache at 50 / 100 / 250 / 500 MB (applies after restart).
- DNS: choose Secure, Automatic or None, each with a plain explanation, and pick a provider (Cloudflare, Google, Quad9, AdGuard, Mullvad or your own). Changes apply right away.
- Your choices are saved in
settings.jsonin the data folder, so they survive updates.
Smarter tab sleep
- A "never sleep" list (
tabSuspend.neverSuspend), so apps like WhatsApp Web and Google Meet keep running in the background. - Tabs that were granted microphone or camera access are not put to sleep.
- When system memory is low, idle tabs sleep sooner (longest idle first, at most 2 per cycle).
Window title follows the active tab
- The Windows taskbar preview and Alt+Tab now show the page title, for example
(96) WhatsApp - Syptek.
🛡️ Ad blocker
- uBO scriptlets now run before page scripts, so rules apply fully (fixes
Identifier 'JSONPath' has already been declared). - Cosmetic filtering is CSS-only.
- Network blocking rewritten: main-page navigations are never blocked, and errors fail open instead of breaking the page.
- Login, captcha and payment sites are exempt by default. Add your own with
adblock.neverBlock. - Pause the ad blocker per site from the context menu or the site menu.
- Popup blocking rewritten: same-site, login and paused sites are always allowed.
- Turning the global toggle off twice no longer throws an error.
🐛 Fixes
- Tab titles no longer cut off the tails of letters like g, y and p.
⚠️ Known limitations
Ctrl+Fis handled by Syptek, so web pages cannot use their own find shortcut.- Find in the built-in PDF viewer has not been tested and may not work.
- "Offline site files" fill up again quickly for busy web apps (WhatsApp, X, and so on), so clearing it helps most for sites you rarely visit.
$documentrules from the badware list no longer block navigation (subresources only), and login/auth paths may let through rare trackers.- Screen sharing and file uploads in progress are not detected by tab sleep, so those tabs can still be put to sleep.
