Releases: klotzbrocken/RetroMac
Release list
RetroMac 2.0
Themed mouse cursors for every OS (System 6/9, Mac OS X Aqua, Windows XP with size options, Windows 3.1), unified BeOS theme, per-theme icon sizes, Setup Assistant appearance/cursor options, System 6 boot splash + opaque Control Strip, Apple-logo reset, and TV-Tube / Duke Nukem / GZDoom fixes.
RetroMac 1.9.7
Two new Mac themes, a retro TV, and matching system looks.
- New theme: Mac OS 6 classic (B/W System 6 — 1-bit icons, 8×8 desktop patterns, Chicago/Geneva fonts, optional Platinum dock, monochrome app icons)
- Mac OS 9 merged: old Mac OS 9.2 is now a Platinum-dock option in Mac OS 9 Classic; every Mac OS 9/6 widget got a pixel-faithful Platinum title bar with working close/collapse/zoom
- TV Tube mode: one-click retro TV — floating TV set in a window or fullscreen on an external display, downloadable bezel + Joel GDV-NTSC shader, right-click to change channel/shader/bezel/TV set
- Themes match your Mac: optional macOS appearance + accent and Terminal profile per theme (originals remembered/restored); crown marks the special themes
- Real .saver screensavers (Pipes, FlowerBox, Flying Toasters, Flurry)
- Unified Mac dock icon sizes (desktop icons follow the slider), Snow Leopard/Mountain Lion shown as 'Mac OS …', sturdier crash recovery, many smaller fixes
RetroMac 1.9.6
A meaner DOOM dock, a 60% smaller download & fixes
- DOOM theme, real firefights: authentic muzzle-flash animations for every weapon, a Plasma bolt stream, rocket & new BFG explosions, and charging Lost Souls that frag the Slayer if he shoots too late — he now only dies to demons or your mouse, with the full 6-frame fall.
- 60% smaller download: an asset diet shrank the app from ~151 MB to ~61 MB — same themes, faster downloads and updates.
- Skippable boot videos: a click or key now skips the Windows XP / 98 / Mac boot sequences straight to the desktop.
- External displays: the retro menu-bar Apple logo sits correctly on extended monitors.
- Magnification polish: the running-app dot stays centred under its icon on the Mac OS X / Snow Leopard docks; Snow Leopard joins the special themes.
- Respects your settings: Retro Mode restores only what it hid, and the CRT Lite overlay sticks to one window per app.
RetroMac 1.9.5
New DOOM theme "Maiks Favourite II" (Doom Slayer patrols the dock, Lost Soul, hover-to-frag, DOOM launcher tile, Apple Hell menu-bar logo), a 24-hour clock option, plus reliability fixes: the real Dock reliably returns after a theme and never peeks beside the retro dock, Mac OS X / Snow Leopard magnification no longer reacts outside the dock, the floating launcher stays clickable, CPU monitor wording, and a clearer privacy/offline note in About.
RetroMac 1.9.2
A retro menu-bar Apple, iPhone camera & a smoother Dock
- Retro menu-bar Apple — cover the system Apple with the classic Rainbow, Aqua or Aqua Classic logo; cycle it from the flyout. Snow Leopard & Mac OS 9 pick fitting defaults.
- iPhone as a camera — Continuity Camera (or any webcam) as the CRT-shaded virtual camera, with a live-updating source list.
- Smoother Dock + Snow Leopard 3D — fluid real-Dock-style magnification, corrected 3D glass shelf, and no more background windows jumping forward on a theme switch.
- "Dock only" & calmer themes — Dock-only restyles just the dock; retro TV window and full-screen shader behave across Spaces.
- Dock Mode & quick launcher, Windows 98/XP taskbar, shaders on every display, new GDV-NTSC shaders, paste-able license field, and many fixes.

RetroMac 1.9.1.1
iPhone camera, a true "Dock only" & lots of fixes (supersedes 1.9.1)
- iPhone as a camera source — pick your iPhone (Continuity Camera) or any webcam in Settings ▸ Camera & Streaming; the list updates live, and the CRT shader runs on the feed.
- "Dock only" really means dock only — no wallpaper, desktop icons, widgets, boot splash or full-screen shader; just the dock.
- Multi-monitor Lite shaders — Lite presets now appear on the selected display, not just the main one.
- TV windows behave — no longer borrow the last theme's menu bar / chrome when no theme is active.
- Tidier quick-access flyout — shader toggle & preset dropdown stay correct after switching presets; correct active-theme highlight; clean Settings/Quit icons; floating launcher on by default.
- Dock fixes — clicking a Dock tile reliably raises a running app's window; correct flyout & Dock-Mode icons; desktop-icon visibility respects other apps.

RetroMac 1.9.1
iPhone camera, a true "Dock only" & lots of fixes
- iPhone as a camera source — pick your iPhone (Continuity Camera) or any webcam in Settings ▸ Camera & Streaming; the list updates live as devices connect, and the CRT shader runs on the feed.
- "Dock only" really means dock only — switching a theme with Dock only on no longer touches your wallpaper, desktop icons, widgets or boot splash, and won't start a full-screen shader.
- TV windows behave — the retro TV window no longer borrows the last used theme's menu bar / chrome when no theme is active.
- Tidier quick-access flyout — active theme highlighted correctly, Settings/Quit are clean icons, floating launcher on by default.
- Dock fixes — clicking a Dock tile reliably brings a running app's window to the front; correct flyout & Dock-Mode icons across themes; desktop-icon visibility respects other apps.
Signed (Developer ID) + notarized. Auto-updates via Sparkle.
RetroMac 1.9.0
RetroMac 1.9 — Dock launcher, taskbar tabs & shaders on every screen
- Dock Mode & quick launcher — optionally show RetroMac in the Dock; click its icon for a slim launcher to switch themes and toggle the shader or virtual camera (Settings ▸ Dock).
- Authentic Windows taskbar — Windows 98 and XP show one elongated taskbar button per open window; click to minimize or restore.
- Shaders on all your displays — the CRT shader now works on secondary monitors; "All Displays" lights up every screen.
- New Retro Crisis shaders + fixes — two GDV-NTSC "Retro Crisis" looks (Composite & RGB), and the classic 98.js desktop apps (Notepad, Paint, Minesweeper…) work again.
- Quick fix — the Settings, Quit and Retro Mode icons in the menu could go missing on a dark desktop; they're back and reliable.
RetroMac 1.8.2
RetroMac 1.8.2
- Webcam lower-third fixes: the on-screen name bar no longer flickers, the Late Night (Gold) / Newsroom style now follows your setting, and long names fit the bar.
- Built-in diagnostics: Settings ▸ About ▸ Diagnostics captures a log you can copy or save — making display, camera and dock issues much easier to track down.
- Stability hardening: the system Dock reliably returns after quitting, plus assorted dock/window fixes.
RetroMac 1.8.1
RetroMac 1.8 — new Special Themes, boot screens & screensavers
- New Special Themes: Windows 98 (with classic games and sheep.exe!), Windows XP, and Mac OS X with its glossy Aqua look — plus classic apps like Internet Explorer, Notepad and Paint.
- Boot screens: authentic startup videos when you switch to Windows XP, Windows 98 or Mac OS 9 — click to skip to the desktop.
- Classic screensavers: a per-theme saver (3D Pipes, FlowerBox, Flying Toasters, Flurry) — pick yours in Settings ▸ Screensaver.
- Smarter minimize into the themed dock, new CPU Monitor & Desktop Clock widgets, plus widget, dock and stability fixes throughout.
