Farmer Back Story

Farmer - Default name: Erdmann

The young farmer Erdmann lives in the rural areas of Germany. He and his wife own a farm and are largely self-sufficient. His wife is expecting their first child. The farm they own is modest, since Erdmann is just starting out and hasn’t yet had the means to acquire much of the land around his farm. On occasion, Erdmann will travel into the cities to sell or trade some of the farm’s surplus food and return home with replacement tools or parts. This is infrequent as it is several days to travel to a city with a cart of crops. However, there are hardly any local blacksmiths, as most of them have moved into the cities, so making the journey is essential on occasion.

Erdmann’s wife is killed during the eruption. His main goal is not clear at first beyond survival (he is crushed over the death of his wife), but eventually he realizes he can still have a life by:

Otherwise: Finding a place where crops will grow well enough for him to build a new homestead and start over.

Erdmann carries a pouch of seeds with him that he was able to take from his farm’s stores. He carries these in the hopes that one day he will find somewhere stable enough to plant them.
