Release Notes
- Collision Resistance: Using SHA-512 increases the output space to 512 bits. The number of items needed for a 50% birthday collision chance becomes sqrt(2^512) = 2^256, which is computationally infeasible to generate. This provides cryptographically strong collision resistance for both the SQS components and the integrity hashes.
- Preimage Resistance: SHA-512 also provides strong preimage resistance, making it computationally infeasible to find an input (e.g., byte + SQS) that produces a given integrity hash, or to find the SQS components given interaction aspects.
- Overall Security: This change significantly strengthens the cryptographic properties of the simulation, making the derived SQS behave much more like a standard cryptographic key in terms of collision resistance. It doesn't fix the MitM vulnerability (authentication is still needed), but it makes the underlying primitives much more robust.
