A small release that fixes the first-run experience: iXpat now tells you what it needs instead of sitting silently in the menu bar.

New

  • Setup guide on first launch. A window that walks through the three things iXpat needs: pair the mouse, allow Input Monitoring, allow Accessibility. Each step has its own button (the system prompt first, then System Settings), and the steps tick themselves off as you grant them.
  • The guide comes back on any later launch where a permission is missing, unless you tick Don't show this again. Setup guide in the menu reopens it at any time, and the menu's warning row now opens it too.
  • Homebrew: brew install knightynite/ixpat/ixpat.

Install

  1. Download iXpat-0.1.1.dmg below, or brew upgrade ixpat.
  2. Open it and drag iXpat to Applications.
  3. Open iXpat and follow the guide.

Apple notarized the app and the disk image. iXpat needs macOS 14 or later. Apple Silicon is tested; the universal build includes Intel, still untested on an Intel Mac.

iXpat gives the Microsoft Surface Mouse (2nd Edition) its haptics and its action button on macOS. This is the first public release.

What it does

  • Haptic feedback for clicks, scroll detents, menu highlights, text selection, window tiling, drag and drop and screen edges
  • Action button remap: press, double press and hold each run an action
  • Action Ring: a radial menu under the pointer, with a detent for each slot
  • Kinetic scrolling, force click, and pointer settings for this mouse only
  • Per-app profiles and a local plugin bridge

Install

  1. Download iXpat-0.1.0.dmg below.
  2. Open it and drag iXpat to Applications.
  3. Open iXpat. macOS asks for Input Monitoring and Accessibility.

Apple notarized the app and the disk image. iXpat needs macOS 14 or later.

Notes

  • iXpat checks GitHub for a new release once a day. You can turn this off in About iXpat.
  • Testing so far covers Apple Silicon. The download also contains an Intel build, which is still untested on Intel Macs.
  • Bug reports go to the Issues tab.
