What changed for you

❗ Update Claude Code first: the current mods need Claude Code 2.1.301 or newer (this release needed 2.1.292+ for placeholders and 2.1.287+ for plan-effort). Run claude update, restart Claude Code (exit, then run claude), and check with claude --version.

  • The codewords ++m, ++a, ++r, ++rr and +++ now come from brewmod-placeholders, not from brewtools. If they stopped working after the brewtools update, install the mod: claude plugin install brewmod-placeholders@claude-brewcode. See prompt placeholders.
  • Update brewtools and the mods together: brewtools 6.7.x next to the new mod injects each block twice.
  • Your own override files (.claude/brewtools/manager/prompts/ and <config>/manager/prompts/) keep working through the mod's legacy layer.
  • Both mods now run a bundled command hook, so they keep working on Team organizations, where Claude Code's built-in security layer bypasses a mod's own hooks. Verified on Claude Code 2.1.300; Enterprise is expected to work but was not tested. node must be on your PATH. See the mods overview.

Update: /brewtools:plugin-update, or the update prompt at the end of the release page.

Minor release: the codewords move from brewtools to brewmod-placeholders, and both mods now run bundled command hooks so they work on Team organizations (Enterprise expected, not tested). Placeholders injects context through hooks/inject.mjs; plan-effort only writes a state file through hooks/mode.mjs.

Migration:

  • Codewords (++m, ++a, ++rr, ++r, +++) now need brewmod-placeholders on Claude Code 2.1.292+: claude plugin install brewmod-placeholders@claude-brewcode.
  • Update brewtools and the mods together: brewtools 6.7.x next to the new mod injects each block twice.
  • Existing override files (.claude/brewtools/manager/prompts/, <config>/manager/prompts/) keep working through the mod's legacy layer.
  • On Claude Code below 2.1.292, upgrade Claude Code first, or skip the brewtools update and stay on 6.7.1 (the plugin-update flow updates the whole train).
  • Codex is unchanged.

brewtools

Removed

  • codeword hook: hooks/manager-prompt.mjs, hooks/lib/manager-prompts.mjs and the UserPromptSubmit entry in hooks/hooks.json.
  • manager-setup codewords: the codeword layer, the edit mode, the 6 prompt references (architect, cron-plan, full, planmode, review-double, review-regression) and the hook's UserPromptSubmit test fixtures (ups-agent-message.json, ups-task-notification.json). manager-setup is now the opt-in hard wall plus the task-tools env merge; status points to brewmod-placeholders.

Changed

  • descriptions: the plugin.json description now says "manager hard-wall guard" instead of "manager codewords" (matches marketplace.json). brewtools/README.md, skills/task-board-setup/README.md (+++ credited to the mod) and skills/context-slim/references/mcp-advice.md point to brewmod-placeholders.

brewmod-placeholders

Fixed

  • Team orgs: the bundled command hook hooks/inject.mjs (a plain hooks.json command entry) is the only context injector. Claude Code's builtin security layer bypasses the classic.* hooks of a user-installed mod on those orgs; a bundled command hook still runs. Verified on Claude Code 2.1.300 on a Team-org and a Max profile, with --plugin-dir and installed copies; Enterprise was not run.
  • hook resilience: the state-file prune skips one bad entry instead of stopping, regular files only, and removes orphan tmp files; an unreadable user layer is skipped (an unreadable default still throws); a failed state write removes its tmp file.

Changed

  • module scope: the hooks module keeps highlight, typeahead, the preview band, /placeholders and inline expansion.
  • requirements: node on PATH; hook timeout 5 s.
  • defaults: default bodies are frozen to the v6.7.0 spec; CI checks them with check-defaults.mjs and inject-parity.mjs (golden vectors against the TypeScript lib).

brewmod-plan-effort

Fixed

  • Team orgs: plan mode is detected by the bundled command hook hooks/mode.mjs, which writes a state file that turn.step reads, so the effort raise works where the module's classic.* hooks are bypassed (Team orgs; Enterprise not tested). Requires node.
  • hook resilience: orphan state tmp files are pruned, the session id is validated before the state file is read, one bad entry no longer stops the prune, a failed state write removes its tmp file, hook timeout 5 s.

brewcode

Changed

  • mod-creator: the agent and its references cover the org-managed bypass and the bundled command-hook patterns.

repo

Changed

  • Validate CI: check-defaults.mjs and inject-parity.mjs replace the extract-defaults --check and gen-golden --check gates; CI also runs node --test brewmod-plan-effort/tests/mode.test.mjs.
  • README: registered hook commands 4 -> 3, the mods section covers the bundled command hooks and the node requirement.
  • APPROACHES.md: codewords documented as coming from brewmod-placeholders.
  • .gitignore: brewmod-*/.state/.

codex

Changed

  • generator: reads cron-plan from the brewmod-placeholders default; the mirror is unchanged.

docs

Changed

  • pages: the 13 pages in the Docs line (brewtools manager pages, codewords stub, mods pages, mod-creator agent page), plus brewcode.app/mods/ promo links and hook counts.

New: Claude Code mods. Type ++r before your request and Claude reviews each significant change, double-checks every finding and fixes only the confirmed ones. Watch it in the console (GIF) · Prompt placeholders

❗ Update Claude Code first: the mods need Claude Code 2.1.301 or newer. Run claude update, restart Claude Code (exit, run claude), check with claude --version.

Update with Claude: paste this prompt into Claude Code

Check `claude --version`. Below 2.1.301 (the mods need it), run `claude update`, then stop and tell me to restart Claude Code and paste this prompt again. Otherwise run `claude plugin list` and note the installed brewcode plugin and mod versions, then read https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kochetkov-ma/claude-brewcode/main/UPDATE.md and follow it to update to the latest release (v6.8.0 or newer). Then read the sections of https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kochetkov-ma/claude-brewcode/main/RELEASE-NOTES.md for every version newer than the one I had, explain in plain words what changed, and recommend what I should try first.

How to update and use it well: UPDATE.md · Recommended flow

Update by hand (Claude Code), then run /reload-plugins:

claude --version # the mods need 2.1.301 or newer
claude update # if it is older; restart Claude Code afterwards
claude plugin marketplace update claude-brewcode
claude plugin update <name>@claude-brewcode # once per installed plugin: brewmod-placeholders, brewmod-plan-effort, brewcode, brewdoc, brewtools, brewui

Or run /brewtools:plugin-update: it updates the installed plugins and mods and never installs a mod.

Install (Claude Code 2.1.301 or newer), then run /reload-plugins. A paste-in prompt for the same commands: Install in 30 seconds.

claude plugin marketplace add https://github.com/kochetkov-ma/claude-brewcode
claude plugin install brewmod-placeholders@claude-brewcode # prompt shortcuts: ++r, ++m, your own
claude plugin install brewmod-plan-effort@claude-brewcode # higher effort while Claude plans
claude plugin install brewcode@claude-brewcode
claude plugin install brewdoc@claude-brewcode
claude plugin install brewtools@claude-brewcode
claude plugin install brewui@claude-brewcode
