Quick Presenter 2.0 adds a stable command-line interface for automation and AI-assisted presentation workflows while keeping PDF playback as its core purpose.
Highlights
- Control presentations with
qp: open/close PDF decks, navigate pages, set blackout explicitly, and query presentation state through Control Protocol v1. - Read presentation source: obtain slide text, supported speaker notes, and current/next context; use
--fullfor unabridged source orqp export --jsonfor the whole deck without navigating. Export omits duplicated next-page content by default;--include-nextpreserves the compatibility format. - Build external agents: watch presentation changes as NDJSON and query elapsed time. The service-free dry-run and narration examples show how an external agent can coordinate speech and page changes; Quick Presenter itself does not generate narration or edit slides.
- Use stable machine interfaces: documented JSON result/error fields, exit codes, command options, watch events, and version metadata are supported public contracts. Application version 2.0.0 retains Control Protocol v1.
- More reliable cold starts:
qp openwaits for saved-PDF restoration before sending the requested Open once. Stalled startup or readiness received after the startup deadline returns TIMEOUT without submitting Open. Regression coverage and runtime verification cover macOS, Windows, and Linux (#474, closes #473). - Refreshed documentation, screenshots, and a PDF demonstration for interactive AI presentations; improved Linux speaker-note spacing and Windows control-pipe authentication and renderer test reliability.
Quick start
qp open slides.pdf --json
qp context --full --json
qp next --json
qp export --json
qp watch --jsonOn macOS, use the bundled CLI at /Applications/Quick Presenter.app/Contents/MacOS/qp, or add a user-local link to PATH. See the CLI guide and external-agent examples.
Downloads and distribution
- macOS with CLI:
QuickPresenter-2.0.0.dmg, Developer ID signed, Apple-notarized, and stapled. - Ubuntu x64:
quick-presenter_2.0.0_amd64.deb, including/usr/bin/qp. - Windows x64: Microsoft Store. Store submission/certification and the installed app version are separate from GitHub publication. Direct MSI/MSIX/raw executable downloads remain validation artifacts and are not supported release downloads.
- Mac App Store: the existing app remains available, but CLI/control support is excluded from that distribution in v2.0.0. Use the Developer ID DMG for macOS CLI workflows. Future Store-compatible CLI work is tracked in #422 and #431–#433.
This GitHub publication does not claim that either Store has certified or publicly updated its package to 2.0.0. Audience Live is outside v2.0.0.
Validation
Release source: 368e5ec71df65c64c790eff0fa7d3de1ac31333e (main after #474).
Main CI passed.
Build Binaries passed on macOS, Windows, and Ubuntu from that exact source commit, including dependency advisory audit, renderer isolation, CLI/process regressions, package checks, and SBOM verification.
- Final macOS DMG passed Developer ID verification, Apple notarization (Accepted), stapling, Gatekeeper, and mounted-DMG PDF rendering. Signed XPC render/notes and private-file/network/child-denial checks passed; bundled CLI metadata confirms application 2.0.0 / Control Protocol v1.
- The final signed macOS GUI/CLI passed 10/10 independent cold starts, each opening the requested deck rather than the remembered deck.
- macOS GUI smoke recorded 124 successful checks and a startup-placement timeout while the screen was locked. The maintainer confirmed this as a known transient screen-lock effect and explicitly accepted this run as passed for this release (#477). Raw results are retained; an automated all-green suite is not claimed.
- The final installed Ubuntu package GUI suite passed 70 checks, 0 failed under Xvfb. Package version/architecture, SBOM schema/references, and all 66 payload entries were independently verified after download.
- Final package-bound CycloneDX 1.5 SBOM sidecars are attached. The macOS sidecar was regenerated and verified after signing, notarization, and stapling.
The maintainer confirmed Windows and Linux end-to-end functional validation after the cross-platform startup fix. Reproduction, automated regressions, and platform-specific runtime results are preserved in the macOS, Windows, and Linux validation records.
Qualification limits
Maintainer-confirmed platform operation and the recorded automated checks do not establish a new certified Store installation or an exhaustive physical multi-display/mixed-DPI/disconnect, every assistive-technology, or fresh-user quarantine matrix. Those unrecorded manual checks remain explicit publication limitations and follow-up under #472, rather than being reported as passed. Detailed validation logs/checklists are retained with the release preparation; public assets retain the existing package-plus-SBOM layout.
Windows accessibility follow-up (2026-10-16): on the extracted release-source submission candidate, Narrator announced the main controls, status text and notes. In a native-key probe, presenter Return/Right did not advance pages while the read-only notes had focus; Return worked after focusing the slide window. Slide/preview images were announced generically. The notes-focus keyboard bug and slide-focus workaround are tracked in #479, with the broader accessibility observations under #339 and the Windows candidate report in #478; complete nonvisual and certified Store-installed acceptance remain follow-ups under #472.
Bundled PDFium remains chromium/8076. The same-day pre-release review identified upstream chromium/8100 (published October 12); this release preserves the qualified main pin. Adoption of a newer native library requires separate platform qualification; equivalence with all newer upstream fixes is not claimed. The dependency audit passed without ignored vulnerability advisories; existing maintenance warnings for bincode and ttf-parser remain documented.
