reference-shortener 0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@koppor koppor released this 23 Jul 17:52

Three more reference cleanups in the shortening pipeline:

  • location is cleared first — few citation styles print it, so it is the cheapest information to lose.
  • URLs are cleaned up alongside DOI normalization (redirect wrappers unwrapped, escapes decoded) — a cleanup any well-formed paper wants anyway.
  • month is removed right after author shortening, as the next-cheapest drop.

Full pipeline order: clear location → normalize DOIs → clean up URLs → minify authors → remove month → abbreviate journals → shorten DOIs (last resort, needs the network).

See the changelog.

Native binaries for Linux, macOS, and Windows are attached below.

Added

  • Initial release: reference-shortener FILE.tex [--pages N] [--output FILE.bib] compiles a LaTeX paper with latexmk and applies escalating, information-reducing cleanups to its cited references — author minification (first author + "et al."), journal-name abbreviation, DOI normalization — recompiling after each and stopping as soon as the paper fits the target page count (default: one page fewer than the current length).
  • Fallback to the Island of TeX texlive/texlive Docker image when no local latexmk is available.
  • JBang packaging: run via jbang reference-shortener@koppor/reference-shortener, or build a native binary with jbang --native.
