AI Camera 0.2.0 — Early Alpha

Live captions, translation, gestures, and an AI voice agent in your outgoing camera feed.
This is an early alpha: useful today, with rough edges and a limited hardware/app test matrix.

Download and install

Download AICamera-0.2.0.pkg, open it, and follow macOS Installer. Open AI Camera from Applications,
then install the virtual camera and optional microphone from its menu. Follow macOS permissions and
Media Extension approval prompts, then choose AI Camera / AI Camera Microphone in your call app.

The host installer preserves existing settings, models, and installed devices. System-component
updates are separate and can require approval or a restart; postpone them when a restart is not possible.

Requirements: macOS 14+, with Apple Silicon recommended. The package contains Apple Silicon and
Intel binaries; runtime acceptance on Intel is not yet complete. Local models download separately.
Whisper Large is limited to supported M4 Pro/Max/Ultra and M5 Macs.

Included

  • Independent virtual camera and microphone with demand-driven physical capture.
  • Whisper Base/Small/Large transcription, local translation, and optional OpenAI transcription.
  • Live OpenAI Realtime conversation activated by toolbar, held victory gesture, or shortcut.
  • Quick mute/captions/translation/agent/gesture controls, Control–Option–A/M shortcuts, and held-fist mute.
  • Local object detection, gesture labels, and agent-created animated overlays.
  • Dedicated Preview and About windows and a compact native menu-bar interface.

Alpha limitations

  • Use AI Camera's own Mute control to hide speech captions. Muting only in Zoom, Teams, Meet,
    or another receiving app is not yet detected reliably. Select AI Camera Microphone to mute its audio.
  • Translation currently replaces the original caption; multiple simultaneous languages are future work.
    Translation may occasionally return no text.
  • Gesture recognition depends on framing/lighting. The toolbar remains available when a gesture fails.
  • Codex login is experimental. Realtime works with it in our testing, but OpenAI approval is
    unconfirmed; account coverage, future availability, and OpenAI's response are unknown. Use at your own risk.
  • Direct physical cameras/microphones are supported; Continuity, aggregate, and other virtual inputs
    are excluded. QuickTime has been exercised; broad call-app/clean-machine coverage remains follow-up work.
  • No automatic updater or separate uninstaller app is included. Use the next signed installer to upgrade.

Privacy, removal, and support

Local models process on your Mac; enabling OpenAI features sends microphone audio to OpenAI.
The supported conversation configuration does not upload camera frames. AI Camera does not record
raw media. AI features are off on a fresh installation.

Installation, repair, and manual cleanup
include fallback removal steps if normal removal fails. macOS can defer camera-extension removal
until a restart; do not disable SIP or delete macOS-managed system-extension directories.

Report issues with your macOS version, Mac model,
app version, and a brief reproduction. Do not attach credentials or private camera/microphone recordings.
