Use v0.1.1 for working update checks and the corrected Windows Redo shortcut. If you installed v0.1.0, download that patch manually.

Sideleaf’s first public release: a small Markdown editor for your words and your files.

  • Write, split, and read views, with Markdown kept literal.
  • Comments stored beside your document in a .sideleaf.json file.
  • Explicit saves, undo/redo, and protection against overwriting outside edits.
  • Quiet daily release checks. A dismissible notice appears in the footer when a newer stable release is available. Help → Check for Updates checks manually. Updates open the release page; installation is your choice.

Install

Mac: Download Sideleaf-0.1.0-macos-arm64.dmg, open it, and drag Sideleaf to Applications. Apple Silicon and macOS 26.6.2 or later are required. The app and disk image are signed, notarized, and stapled.

Windows: Download Sideleaf-0.1.0-windows-x64-setup.zip, extract the whole ZIP, and run Sideleaf-Setup.exe. Keep the adjacent .installer folder with Setup. Requires Windows 11 x64 and the installed Microsoft Edge WebView2 Evergreen runtime. This build is unsigned; Windows may show an unknown-publisher or SmartScreen notice.

Early-release limits

On Windows, Redo in the editor uses Ctrl+Y; the native menu currently shows the wrong shortcut.

One document at a time, with manual saves. There is no crash recovery or automatic update installation. Images are not yet rendered in the preview. Keep backups of important writing.

Sideleaf is MIT licensed. See the repository’s license and bundled third-party notices. Sideleaf-0.1.0-runtime-sources.tar.gz contains runtime sources, build instructions, patches, and license material. Its companion Sideleaf-0.1.0-WebKit-source.tar.gz contains the corresponding WebKit/JavaScriptCore source. These source assets are for rebuilding or modifying the runtime; normal installation needs only the download for your platform.

SHA256SUMS.txt records the checksums of all five attached installer, source, and notice files.
