Headway 0.5.2: a live bus map for Madison, WI (Metro Transit) for iPhone, iOS 17 or later.

Download Headway-0.5.2-unsigned.ipa and sign it yourself. It is unsigned on purpose: install it with a sideloading
tool that signs with your own Apple ID (for example AltStore or Sideloadly). Check the file first:

shasum -a 256 -c Headway-0.5.2-unsigned.ipa.sha256

With a free Apple ID such tools are widely reported to allow an app for 7 days (then it must be signed again) and three
apps at a time; that comes from community reports, so check the tool's page. Details and the build-from-source route are in
the README. There is no App Store version.

What changed since 0.2.0

  • Map. Routes that share a street are drawn side by side, thinner on busy streets, with the two directions kept apart
when zoomed in; buses and lines shrink when zoomed out. A route can be narrowed to one destination (D1, D2, ...), with its
    first and last stop ringed.
  • Buses. Each bus shows its route and pattern ("D2"), the way its trip runs (E, W, N, S) and a white or black ring for
the direction. Buses that are not on a trip are marked so nobody boards one by mistake; if the next trip is known, it is
    shown.
  • Delays. Buses are counted as late, on time or early per route, direction and destination, in colour. A live time never
replaces the timetable's own time, which the stop board and the full timetable keep beside it. Tapping a punctuality bar
opens hour-by-hour charts for weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Faster launch (about five times), a back button after "Show on map", a compact routes list, and Settings > Licences
with the licence of everything the app contains.

Good to know

  • The app includes a snapshot of the city's timetable and the Madison map, so it works on first launch; it asks the city
for live positions. See PRIVACY.md for every network request.
  • The punctuality figures come from recordings of the city's public feeds and still rest on a few days of data.
  • Headway is independent of the City of Madison and Metro Transit; times can differ from what the buses do.
