Headway 0.6.0: a live bus map for Madison, WI (Metro Transit) for iPhone, iOS 17 or later.
Download Headway-0.6.0-unsigned.ipa and sign it yourself. It is unsigned on purpose: install it with a sideloading
tool that signs with your own Apple ID (for example AltStore or Sideloadly). Check the file first:
shasum -a 256 -c Headway-0.6.0-unsigned.ipa.sha256
With a free Apple ID such tools are widely reported to allow an app for 7 days (then it must be signed again) and three
apps at a time; that comes from community reports, so check the tool's page. Details and the build-from-source route are in
the README. There is no App Store version.
What is new since 0.5.2
- Language. Settings > Language: System default, English or 日本語. The whole app switches at once, without a restart,
and the choice is remembered. "System default" follows iOS, including its per-app language setting. Dates, numbers and
distances keep following your phone's region. The map's labels and the city's stop and destination names stay in
English, and the location permission message and the app's name come from iOS, so they keep iOS's language. - The language choice is stored on the phone only and is never sent anywhere (see PRIVACY.md).
- One catalog entry with unescaped percent signs was fixed, and a test now checks that every string has a Japanese
translation with the same placeholders.
Good to know
- The app includes a snapshot of the city's timetable and the Madison map, so it works on first launch; it asks the city
for live positions. See PRIVACY.md for every network request. - The punctuality figures come from recordings of the city's public feeds and still rest on a few days of data.
- Headway is independent of the City of Madison and Metro Transit; times can differ from what the buses do.
