@kosuke-satake kosuke-satake released this 12 Oct 13:46

The first release of Paddock, a menu bar app that runs the one shared Ollama server on a Mac.

What it does

  • Turns ollama serve on and off, always bound to 127.0.0.1:11434 and with Ollama's cloud features off
(OLLAMA_NO_CLOUD=1). Apps that use the server only connect to it; Paddock is the one place that starts and
    stops it.
  • Shows the server's state in the menu bar: off, on, on but started outside Paddock, starting or stopping, and
Ollama missing. The menu says since when the server has been running.
  • Copies the server address, shows the server's log (the five newest files are kept), and sets how long models
stay loaded after their last request.
  • Stops the server it started when it quits. Asks before stopping a server that something else started.

Requirements

  • macOS 26 on Apple silicon.
  • Ollama, installed separately (for example brew install ollama). It is a separate program
under its own licence (MIT) and is not included.

Install

  1. Download Paddock-0.1.0.dmg and Paddock-0.1.0.dmg.sha256. To check the download, run
shasum -a 256 -c Paddock-0.1.0.dmg.sha256 in the folder that holds both; it prints OK.
  2. Open the dmg and drag Paddock.app onto the Applications folder next to it.
  3. Paddock is signed but not notarized, so the first time macOS refuses to open it: open System Settings → Privacy &
    Security and click Open Anyway.

Paddock asks for no privacy permissions and sends nothing over the network. It adds itself to Login Items the first
time it opens from Applications; turn that off in its menu if you prefer.
