Tapdeck 0.4.0
Tapdeck routes, mixes and records audio on macOS: it takes the sound of individual apps, the whole system, microphones and audio interfaces, mixes them, and plays the result to any number of outputs at once — speakers, headphones, Bluetooth, AirPlay, or virtual devices that other apps such as Zoom and OBS can use as a microphone.
This is the first public release.
What's in it
- Mixes of apps, system audio and inputs, several running at once, each to several outputs.
- Per-source effects: low and high cut, five-band EQ, gate, compressor, limiter, balance, mono, delay, and evening out loudness.
- Replace the original sound, so an app is heard only through its mix.
- One volume per place: output faders set the device's own volume; every output ends in a limiter instead of clipping.
- Output delay to line up Bluetooth and AirPlay with other speakers.
- Recording: a mix straight to an audio file (AAC, Apple Lossless, FLAC, WAV or AIFF), or the screen with chosen size, codec, quality and frame rate, system audio and the microphone on separate tracks.
- A menu bar item to start, stop and record mixes.

Tapdeck is signed but not notarized, so macOS blocks the first launch. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway next to the message about Tapdeck.

Optionally check the download: save
Tapdeck-0.4.0.dmg.sha256in the same folder as the dmg and run:shasum -a 256 -c Tapdeck-0.4.0.dmg.sha256
Requires macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon.
Known limitations
- Virtual devices need the driver, which is not in the dmg: build and install it once from the source with
sudo ./install-driver.sh. Everything else works without it. - AirPlay: making AirPlay the Mac's output while a mix plays to it has not yet been tested with a receiver.
- Menu bar: when the menu bar is already full, macOS does not show newly added icons, Tapdeck's included. The window says so; freeing room once is enough.
- No MP3: macOS has no MP3 encoder; AAC takes its place.
Tapdeck sends nothing anywhere. See PRIVACY.md.
