Tapdeck routes, mixes and records audio on macOS: it takes the sound of individual apps, the whole system, microphones and audio interfaces, mixes them, and plays the result to any number of outputs at once — speakers, headphones, Bluetooth, AirPlay, or virtual devices that other apps such as Zoom and OBS can use as a microphone.
What's new in 0.5.0
- Language choice: Settings › General offers System default, English and 日本語. The choice applies to the windows at once, without restarting Tapdeck; the app menu and file dialogs follow the next time it starts.
- Japanese translation of the interface.
- The choice is kept in Tapdeck's preferences, on your Mac only.
Install
-
Download
Tapdeck-0.5.0.dmg, open it, and dragTapdeck.apponto the Applications folder beside it. -
Tapdeck is signed but not notarized, so macOS blocks the first launch. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway next to the message about Tapdeck.
-
Optionally check the download: save
Tapdeck-0.5.0.dmg.sha256in the same folder as the dmg and run:shasum -a 256 -c Tapdeck-0.5.0.dmg.sha256
Requires macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon.
Known limitations
- Virtual devices need the driver, which is not in the dmg: build and install it once from the source with
sudo ./install-driver.sh. Everything else works without it. - AirPlay: making AirPlay the Mac's output while a mix plays to it has not yet been tested with a receiver.
- Menu bar: when the menu bar is already full, macOS does not show newly added icons, Tapdeck's included. The window says so; freeing room once is enough.
- No MP3: macOS has no MP3 encoder; AAC takes its place.
Tapdeck sends nothing anywhere. See PRIVACY.md.
