Settings
Settings → Happy Comments. There's only a few options here to keep things as simple as possible.
Readers get one checkbox, not a choice. This decides what ticking it means:
- All comments on the post — every new comment, whoever wrote it
- Replies to their own comment — only comments below theirs in the thread
Replies-only is much quieter. All-comments is what most people expect from "notify me", and what most people mean when they tick a box in a comment form.
Off by default, and it should probably stay off.
A pre-ticked box means consent is given before the reader does anything, which the GDPR does not accept as freely given. Nothing is sent without email confirmation either way, so nobody gets mail they did not ask for.
What the checkbox says. Leave it empty and the plugin uses wording that matches whichever scope you picked.
The sentence shown under the checkbox and in the standalone form. Basic HTML is allowed: links, <em>, <strong>.
Use %privacy_policy% where the link to your privacy policy should go.
Editing this text stores it as a new version. Existing subscriptions keep the version they agreed to, and the wording behind each version is kept, so a subscription from last year can still show the exact sentence that person saw. See Consent and privacy.
Empty means the plugin links the privacy page set under Settings → Privacy and calls it "privacy policy". Fill either field to point somewhere else or to word the link differently.
If no page is set anywhere, the token becomes plain text rather than a broken link.
How long a subscription nobody confirmed is kept, in days. Two by default.
An unconfirmed subscription is someone's email address that they never agreed to you keeping. Confirmed and unsubscribed rows are never touched by this — an unsubscribed row is the record of somebody's opt-out and outliving the retention period is the point of it.
