1.17.0
Changed
- Launching the app while it's already open brings its window forward instead of starting a second copy inside it; opening a file still starts its own player.
- The command line rejects extra or unreadable arguments, and
--helpnames the right settings folder on every OS. - Auto-download and "Download Series" skip episodes that aren't available yet.
- A download folder typed in Preferences accepts
~and rejects relative paths. - The updater checks the download's checksum, and puts everything back if an update fails partway.
Fixed
- Access tokens no longer appear in log files.
- Leaving the player or skipping ahead while a title is still loading no longer leaves it playing in the background or closes the wrong page.
- Changing quality no longer jumps back 5 seconds.
- Downloaded HDR titles start with SVP off, like streamed ones, and downloads show the server's track names.
- The end of a video reports the exact final position, so short videos get marked watched.
- Music keeps playing when the next track isn't ready in time, and skips a track that fails to play.
- Linux: notifications come back when the window is closed during a video.
- Do-not-disturb no longer slows every video start when no supported notification service is found.
- Downloads can be paused or cancelled on a stalled connection, and a dead connection fails instead of hanging.
- A paused download continues even if the title was renamed on the server, and one that had already finished completes instead of failing.
- Two downloads with the same title no longer overwrite each other.
- Downloads are no longer lost from the queue, or carried over to another account, after signing out.
- Download progress keeps updating after coming back from the player.
- Queueing a long series no longer freezes the app.
- Settings, sign-in, the download queue and auto-download survive a crash or power loss while saving.
- Download file names are valid on Windows (reserved names like CON, trailing dots).
- Lower CPU and battery use while a library grid is open.
- The "In Progress" filter shows an error instead of an empty list when loading fails.
- Image memory is capped by size, so browsing many titles no longer uses gigabytes; often-seen artwork stays in the disk cache.
- A damaged seek-preview file can no longer crash the app.
- Unplugging a controller while holding a direction no longer keeps scrolling, and the legend stays while another controller is connected.
- Controller remapping: two prompts no longer cancel each other, and closing Preferences cancels a pending one.
- The updater's Restart reliably starts the new version.
- Windows: no console window flashes when playing trailers or updating, and closing the app no longer waits 2 seconds for SVP Manager.
1.16.1
Added
- Preferences → Home → "In Progress" filter for TV (off by default): turn it on to get "In Progress" in TV libraries' filters; it's off by default because finding the started series can take a moment with a long watch history.
Fixed
- With a controller, Up from the top row of a library grid didn't reach the bar above it (filter, sort), so the filter couldn't be changed: since the bar became a centred group, it wasn't straight above most cards. Up from the top row now always goes to the bar.
- With a controller, the grid's filter and sort lists opened but their choices ignored A, so nothing could be picked. A on the filter or sort now steps to its next choice (wrapping), as it already did on Preferences' choice rows; a mouse still opens the list.
- With a controller, A on a row of the Downloads page now does what its button does: pauses a running download, resumes a paused one (the buttons at the row's end still work too).
- Steam Game Mode: Profile no longer offers "Change Picture…", whose file chooser can't be used with a controller there (the same as Preferences' folder picker).
- The "In Progress" filter never showed anything in TV libraries: Emby doesn't mark a series itself as in progress, only its episodes. It now lists the series you've started (an episode watched or part-watched) and haven't finished.
1.16.0
Added
- Downloads survive closing the app, even an abrupt close or crash: what was downloading or waiting is remembered, and a download that was cut off continues from where it stopped instead of starting over. Preferences → Downloads → "Resume downloads at start" (on by default) carries them on when the app opens again; off, they wait on the Downloads page.
- The Downloads page can pause and resume: a running download has Pause (keeps what's downloaded) and Cancel (deletes the partial file); paused ones are listed under "Paused" with Resume, and "Resume All". A download interrupted by a lost connection lands there too, ready to continue.
- The Downloads page shows how much space downloads use and how much is free on that disk, and groups finished downloads by series, each with its total size.
- Preferences → Playback → "Quality menu for downloads", off by default: when on, downloaded titles keep the Quality button, and picking a lower quality streams the title from the server from the same spot; Original goes back to the download. If the server can't be reached, it plays the download instead.
- The player says when a video plays from this device: a "Downloaded" tag (or "Local file" in the standalone player) at the right of the top bar, appearing with the controls.
Changed
- Downloads check for disk space first and keep at least 1 GB free: when there isn't room, the download and everything waiting pause with a note saying how much space is needed, instead of filling the disk. Auto-download leaves paused episodes alone.
- Library grids (and search, playlists, artists, collections, More Libraries) are packed with the same tight 12px gap as Home's rows and centred, fitting as many columns as the window allows; a short list (even a single result) sits in the middle, and the bar above (item count, filter, sort) sits centred over them. Genre and tag tiles are centred too.
Fixed
- A downloaded title showed the Quality button, and picking a quality quietly switched to streaming it from the server. Downloads now hide it, like other local files.
- Playing a downloaded episode, Up Next and previous/next only knew the other downloaded episodes: with episodes 2 and 4 downloaded but not 3, episode 2 went straight to 4. When the server is reachable they now follow the series itself, playing the next episode from disk if it's downloaded and streaming it if not; offline, the downloaded episodes still follow each other.
- mpv no longer logs "vf-remove: item label svp not found" before every video when SVP isn't attached.
1.15.0
Added
- Auto-download for series: "Auto-download…" in a series' Download menu (or its card's menu) keeps its next unwatched episodes downloaded, 1 to 20 of them, as the usual original files, and can delete episodes once they're watched. It checks when the app starts, every half hour, and shortly after you stop watching something; the Downloads page lists each series' setting to change or stop it.
- Downloaded titles are marked: a small download badge on their artwork in episode lists and on movie and episode cards. Movie and episode pages have a download button beside the favourite star: it downloads the title, shows a spinner while it's queued or downloading (opening Downloads), and turns green once downloaded, offering to delete the download.
- Steam library artwork (cover, wide cover, background and logo) for adding the app as a non-Steam game: in the Linux archive's
steam-libraryfolder, and as its own download on the release page.
Changed
- Every dialog now looks like Preferences and Profile, in the app's colours with a close button at the top: Add to Playlist, Open URL, the SVP folder, and the sign-in-again prompt no longer use the plain grey pop-up style.
1.14.1
Added
- A "Show More Libraries" switch in Preferences, under Home, off by default. Home's "More Libraries" card (for libraries hidden from Home) now appears only when it's on.
Removed
- Profile's "Show missing episodes" switch, which had no effect in this app.
Fixed
- Profile: your picture and name now sit at the top, followed by Change Password and Profile PIN, then the settings; before, the picture appeared below the password rows. Sign Out is gone from Profile (it's "Log Out" in Home's menu), and so is the menu's Profile item, which duplicated the avatar button.
- Profile's "Hide watched items in Suggestions" had no effect on TV libraries: their Suggestions tab always hid watched series. It now follows the switch, as movie libraries already did.
1.14.0
Added
- Profile: your own Emby account settings, from the avatar at the top right of Home (or the menu's Profile). Change your picture or password, set a profile PIN, sign out, and edit the settings Emby's own apps share: audio and subtitle language, subtitle mode (including Smart, Only forced and None), playing the default audio track, remembering audio and subtitle choices, autoplaying the next episode, rewinding on resume, skipping intros (button, automatic or not at all), missing episodes, hiding watched items, and each library's place on Home, with one switch to show or hide it there (its Latest row included). Changes are saved to the server as you make them.
- Libraries hidden from Home stay reachable: a "More Libraries" card at the end of Home's Libraries row lists them.
- Player-only mode has its own copies of these playback settings in Preferences, saved in the app's config, so playing files never needs a server.
Changed
- Signed in, playback follows your Emby account's settings instead of the app's: Preferences no longer shows its own audio and subtitle languages then (they're on Profile). A copy of the account's settings is kept for playing downloads without a connection.
1.13.1
Fixed
- The Trailers library's tile on Home showed a cinema photo instead of the "Trailers" art Emby's own apps show. Library tiles now use the same picture as Emby.
- Home ignored your Emby display settings for libraries: it showed libraries you've hidden from My Media (Playlists, say), in the server's default order, with "Latest" rows for libraries you've excluded from them. It now follows those settings, as Emby's own apps do.
- Round pictures (artists in Favorites and the music library, people in Cast & Crew and search) could be stretched into ovals: with a UI scale and a high-DPI display, wide images (logos, band photos) were given more room than portrait ones. Every picture is now exactly its card's size, so circles stay circles, and posters and other cards no longer vary in width with their image.
1.13.0
Added
- TV libraries get a Collections tab too, shown only when the library has collections (an Anime library with some does, a TV Series library without any doesn't). Movie libraries now hide theirs when empty, the same way.
- A "Version" button on movie and episode pages for titles with more than one version (a 4K and a 1080p file, say), next to Subtitles. "Default" leaves the choice to Emby; a chosen version applies until the app is closed.
- Windows and macOS: media keys and the system's "now playing" controls work with the music player (play/pause, next, previous, seeking, with the track's title, artist and cover), as they already did on Linux.
- Movie and series pages show "Included In": the collections the title belongs to, between Cast & Crew and More Like This, like Emby's own apps.
Fixed
- Albums without a cover of their own showed a music note, where Emby's apps show the cover embedded in their tracks. The app now uses the same borrowed cover.
1.12.3
Fixed
- Leaving the player (back to the library) now disconnects SVP Manager too, not just closing the app. It stayed attached to the idle player before, waiting for a video that wasn't coming, which could leave the next playback's SVP stuck yellow.
- macOS: turning SVP off in the player (and now leaving the player or closing the app) didn't disconnect SVP Manager, which stayed attached until the next video. It's disconnected straight away there too, as on Linux and Windows.
- Windows and macOS: "Keep the screen on" didn't work, so the display could dim or sleep mid-video. Both now ask the system directly while a video plays, as Linux already did through the desktop.
- macOS: hardware decoding asked for VA-API (Linux only) before falling back to VideoToolbox; it now asks for VideoToolbox directly.
1.12.2
Fixed
- Closing the app now disconnects SVP Manager straight away. Before, its connection lingered until the app's process had fully exited, which could leave SVP stuck "waiting for the video info" (yellow) when the app was opened again.
