KOS Starter Kit v1.2.0

Highlights

KOS Starter Kit 1.2.0 bootstraps KOS Community 1.0.0 on the KOS Core 1.0.0 compatibility contract. It is Apache-2.0 licensed and produces a Markdown-first, Obsidian-compatible Knowledge OS.

New features

  • Additive enhancement of an existing plain Obsidian vault.
  • Local Power-Up and Skill manifests, registries, lifecycle tools, and a starter scaffold.
  • Optional Codex, Claude, and Gemini adapters.

Installer improvements

  • New installation, supported Starter Kit upgrades, dry-run plans, collision review, transaction journals, and conservative rollback.
  • Existing knowledge and user configuration are preserved; unsafe or ambiguous migrations are blocked for review.
  • Release source and client ZIP use explicit allowlists and reproducible Git line endings.

Upgrade notes

Use a reviewed dry-run before upgrading. A supported 1.1 installation can upgrade to 1.2.0. Back up the full existing vault before a migration. The first repeat upgrade may merge installation metadata once; a subsequent dry-run proposes no writes.

Supported AI environments

Codex, Claude, and Gemini adapters were validated. PowerShell and Bash installer paths were exercised in cross-platform CI.

Compatibility

Starter Kit 1.2.0 installs KOS Community 1.0.0 and declares KOS Core contract 1.0.0. KOS Pro activation and Community-to-Pro migration are not included.

Known limitations

The Obsidian link audit covers common wikilinks, embeds, and Markdown links; plugin-specific and every possible alias, heading, block, or external-link form were not exhaustively tested. A Windows symlink-permission test was skipped on the local test host; Windows junction safety and cross-platform CI passed.

Security and privacy

The release ZIP contains only 149 explicitly allowlisted client files. It excludes private knowledge, user data, credentials, runtime state, build logs, and proprietary KOS Pro implementation. Installation does not relicense user content or separately supplied packages.
