The first stable release of Insomnia. It is the 0.1.0 (build 1) app installed on the maintainer's Mac, which the maintainer considers stable, packaged without rebuilding or re-signing it. Experimental builds will be published separately as nightly prereleases.

Requirements

  • An Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 26 or later.
  • An administrator password. The installer writes a sudoers rule that lets your user account run four pmset commands without a password; the README lists them.

Install

Download Insomnia-0.1.0-macos-arm64.zip and SHA256SUMS into one folder, then run:

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS
unzip -q Insomnia-0.1.0-macos-arm64.zip
cd Insomnia-0.1.0-macos-arm64
./scripts/install.sh --app ./Insomnia.app
open "$HOME/Applications/Insomnia.app"

With --app, the installer runs codesign --verify --strict --deep on the bundle before the password prompt, then copies it as it is. Also before the password prompt, it refuses a bundle or release folder inside the installed ~/Applications/Insomnia.app, and an Applications folder inside the bundle. If removing the old app or copying the new one fails, it stops and says what is left at ~/Applications/Insomnia.app. It installs scripts/backstop.sh from the same folder, the recovery LaunchAgent and the sudoers rule the same way a source install does. Keep the folder: ./scripts/uninstall.sh in it removes Insomnia again, and ./scripts/uninstall.sh --purge also removes its configuration and logs.

This release has no gh attestation verify step and does not take install.sh --allow-unverified-origin --app. Those belong to releases built by the release workflow, and this one was not.

What this build is

  • Version 0.1.0, build 1, bundle identifier com.kgarg.insomnia, arm64 only, minimum macOS 26.0.
  • Ad-hoc signed and not notarized. If macOS will not open it, choose Open Anyway in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
  • Packaged file for file from the app installed on the maintainer's Mac. No GitHub workflow built it, so it has no build provenance attestation; SHA256SUMS is the check.
  • Its executable matches the local release build in a checkout that was clean at commit b05652c, apart from two Mach-O size fields and the code signature. That comparison does not prove which commit the build came from.
  • The v0.1.0 tag is b05652c plus two release-only commits. The first adds install.sh --app, its tests and docs. The second makes --app refuse a source that the install would delete or copy into, and report failed copies, with tests. App sources, backstop.sh and uninstall.sh are unchanged. The scripts, README and LICENSE in the zip come from that tag (ea5ce15).

Not tested

Tests with fake tools cover the --app install path. Nobody has run this zip's install, first launch, Gatekeeper prompt or uninstall on a real Mac as part of this release, and no power, lid, audio or brightness behavior was retested for it; docs/release-validation.md lists what is still not run. The stable label is the maintainer's judgment of this build, not the result of new tests.
