Roam Desktop 1.3.3

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 12 Oct 21:05

Roam Desktop 1.3.3: Interface size, connect or disconnect each cluster, and lighter, safer live lists.

New

  • Interface size: Settings → General → Interface size makes text, icons and spacing larger or smaller together (90–125 %), so nothing overlaps. ⌘+ and ⌘− (Ctrl on Windows and Linux) change it too.
  • Connect or disconnect a cluster: Settings → Clusters has a Connect switch for each cluster. A disconnected cluster stays out of the way — no connection at launch, no background checks, no watches or port forwards — until you connect it again.
  • Reorder clusters: dragging a cluster in Settings → Clusters works again (it did nothing on macOS and Linux), and ↑ ↓ on the focused handle move it too. The order sets ⌘1–⌘9.

Faster

  • Live lists receive only what changed instead of the whole list again, so a busy cluster sends far less data to the window.
  • Roam loads less at launch: each screen loads when you first open it.
  • The change history no longer downloads Helm's release Secrets, which are most of a cluster's Secret data.

Fixes

  • Bastion clusters: shells and port forwards now go through the SSH tunnel like everything else.
  • Secrets: the Apply and Edit YAML previews no longer show Secret values.
  • Saved credentials: a keychain that was briefly unavailable at launch could leave saved clusters unreadable; Roam now keeps and recovers them.
  • Logs: a single very long line no longer stops the stream (or the previous run's log), and following a busy log does less work on each update.
  • Gate: checking for a newer Gate version gives up after 10 seconds instead of holding up the screen, and says when the chart can't be read.
  • Updates: Roam only installs updates it can verify against the release's checksums.
  • Readable dim text in both themes, keyboard access to table headers and dock tabs, and many smaller fixes.

Roam Desktop 1.3.2

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 08 Oct 13:57

Roam Desktop 1.3.2: Back from a linked object, logs that hold still while you read, and YAML edits that save.

New

  • Back: every screen starts with a Back button (with the name of the object it returns to), and ⌘[ / ⌘] (Alt+← / Alt+→ on Windows and Linux) go back and forward. Open a Deployment's Secret or a Pod's Node, then come straight back. On a Mac the mouse's back and forward buttons work too.
  • Reading logs: scroll up and the view stays still while new lines keep coming; the button at the bottom shows how many arrived and takes you back to the live tail. Pod logs and Workspace log panes also get a Pause button (Space in pod logs).
  • More log history: pod logs start with the last 25,000 lines (was 5,000), a previous run's with 50,000, Streams with 5,000 per pod. Each stream keeps 100,000 lines by default; Settings → Logs & Shell → Keep in memory offers 25k, 100k and 500k.

Fixes

  • YAML editor: saving could fail again and again with "The object changed since you opened it", for example on Ingresses that a controller keeps updating. The editor now opens the latest version every time, and if the object changed meanwhile in other fields, your edits are applied on top of it (it still stops when both changed the same field).
  • Updates: pressing Restart to update again while an update was installing showed an error. Roam now says it's installing and restarts by itself.
  • macOS notifications come from Roam. They used to appear as Script Editor's, and clicking one opened Script Editor; now clicking one brings Roam back. macOS asks once whether Roam may send notifications.

Roam Desktop 1.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 06 Oct 10:14

Roam Desktop 1.3.0: sign in to Google GKE with your Google account.

New

  • Google GKE: sign in with your Google account instead of pasting a service account key. Roam opens Google's sign-in page in your browser, then lists the GKE clusters in every project the account can see, with each project's name and ID. Pick one and add it. Service account keys still work.
  • Kubeconfigs that use gke-gcloud-auth-plugin: the Mac App Store, Flathub and Snap versions can't run the plugin; Sign in with Google Cloud now signs in with your Google account, with the project, location and cluster filled in from the kubeconfig.
  • Signing in through the browser (Google, AWS SSO, Azure): Roam comes back in front as soon as you're done. Google's page also has an Open Roam button (Roam now handles roam:// links).

Roam Desktop 1.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 05 Oct 03:33

Roam Desktop 1.2.0: a readable YAML search, a Window menu that brings Roam back, and Roam for the Mac App Store and Microsoft Store.

New

  • macOS: Window → Roam (⌘0) shows the main window again. With Keep running in background on, closing the window keeps Roam running; this menu, or the Dock icon, brings it back.
  • Mac App Store: the App Store version starts with Keep running in background off, so closing the window quits Roam like other single-window Mac apps. Turn it on in Settings → General to keep port forwards and notifications going.

Fixed

  • YAML editor: the search and replace bar (⌘F / Ctrl+F) was nearly invisible — light text on a white field and grey buttons. It now uses Roam's colors in dark and light mode.

Changed

  • Mac App Store and Microsoft Store: Roam AI isn't offered on the China mainland stores. Everything else works the same there.

Roam Desktop 1.1.6

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 04 Oct 07:05

Roam Desktop 1.1.6: a fix for macOS privacy prompts after dragging a link.

Fixed

  • macOS: dragging a link a little — one in Roam's sidebar, or one from a browser — and letting go over the window no longer makes Roam look through the whole disk, which had macOS ask whether Roam may access Apple Music, iCloud Drive or a network volume. Roam doesn't need any of these; if you saw the prompts, choose Don't Allow. Folders dropped to apply manifests are read only to a sensible depth, and never from the disk root or your home folder.
  • macOS and Linux: when reading your shell's PATH takes too long, the shell is stopped instead of being left running.

Roam Desktop 1.1.5

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 04 Oct 03:36

Roam Desktop 1.1.5: pod shells in the bottom dock, file suggestions as you type, and a shell that stays fast through huge output.

New

  • Pod shells in the dock: shells into pods open as tabs in the bottom dock beside the kubectl terminal, under the current screen: from S on a pod, the Shell into dialog and Files' Open shell here. Each tab keeps its session while the dock is hidden and can go full screen. Without a chosen shell it uses bash when the container has it, else sh; a chosen shell the container lacks falls back to /bin/sh with a note.
  • Files and folders as you type: in the pod shell, arguments of cat, ls, cd, tail, cp, rm and anything that looks like a path suggest the names in that directory; Tab completes them. It follows the working directory and chroot /host.
  • Node tools: suggestions for ssh, scp, openssl, crictl, ctr, docker, systemctl, journalctl, nsenter, iptables, tcpdump, lsof, strace and chroot, with their subcommands (docker ps, systemctl status, crictl logs).
  • Production confirmations: the type-to-confirm prompt has a copy button for the name to type; it still has to be pasted in.

Fixed

  • Pod and node shell: cat of a huge log no longer freezes Roam or grows its memory: output is capped and trimmed with a note, and Ctrl+C stops a runaway command. ssh without a terminal is treated as a nested shell.
  • Windows: console windows no longer flash open for kubeconfig credential plugins (aws, gke-gcloud-auth-plugin, kubelogin) or when stopping a terminal command.
  • History suggestions: once you've typed more than one word, past lines must start with it, so kubectl describe no longer suggests kubectl delete … --force.
  • Full-screen shell: the Recent and Suggested panel stays within its width.

Roam Desktop 1.1.4

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 03 Oct 18:47

Roam Desktop 1.1.4: certificate details for TLS Secrets, and a pod shell that handles chroot /host.

New

  • Certificates in Secrets: Secrets holding certificates (tls.crt, ca.crt or any key) get a Certificate tab, opened first for TLS Secrets. It shows the lifetime and checks whether the certificate is valid, whether tls.key belongs to it, and whether its chain verifies against ca.crt (or this computer's trusted roots), plus the cert-manager Certificate and Issuer behind it. Every certificate in the Secret lists its subject, issuer, serial number, validity dates, alternative names, public key, signature algorithm, key usages and SHA-256 fingerprint. Certificates are read without revealing the Secret; the private key never reaches the UI.
  • Secrets list: a Certificate expires column for Secrets with tls.crt.
  • Production clusters in blue: the badge and the line atop each page are blue for production and green for other clusters. Red is kept for failures and for confirmations of risky changes in production.

Fixed

  • Pod and node shell: chroot /host, su and other commands that read input no longer look stuck. While a command runs, what you type goes to it; a nested shell's prompt and its "job control turned off" notice no longer show as errors, and exit leaves it.
  • macOS: Quit from the Dock, logging out and shutting down quit Roam again when Keep running in background is on; closing the window still keeps it running.
  • Lists: column titles no longer let rows show through while scrolling.

Roam Desktop 1.1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 03 Oct 17:40

Roam Desktop 1.1.3: Windows fixes, a tray icon, and Roam on the Microsoft Store.

New

  • Tray icon (Windows, Linux): with Keep running in background on, closing the window keeps Roam in the system tray. Click the icon to bring Roam back; right-click for Open Roam and Quit Roam. Linux desktops without a tray (GNOME without the AppIndicator extension) minimise the window instead.
  • Installer (Windows): closes a running Roam before updating it, and offers Launch Roam when it finishes.
  • Microsoft Store: Roam is on its way to the Microsoft Store as Kuberoam. The Store version updates itself through the Store and supports Start at login.

Fixed

  • Windows: dropping a kubeconfig on the window now adds clusters (the file used to open in another app).
  • Windows: notifications show as Roam instead of "Windows PowerShell".
  • Windows: the window fits smaller screens and high display scaling, so its title bar is always reachable.
  • Windows: closing the window no longer leaves Roam running with no way back except Task Manager.
  • Windows: dragging a file out of Roam could crash the app.
  • Turning on Start at login is applied before it is saved, so the setting always matches what is in effect.

Roam Desktop 1.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 03 Oct 12:11

Roam Desktop 1.1.2: a signed macOS download, and Roam on the Linux app stores.

New

  • macOS: a DMG signed and notarized by Apple, for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Roam updates itself from it like on Windows.
  • Linux app stores: Roam is on its way to Flathub and the Snap Store. Store installs are updated by the store and use Roam's EKS/GKE/AKS sign-in in place of kubeconfig exec plugins, which their sandbox can't run.
  • Linux: the .deb now installs Roam's AppStream metadata with its desktop entry and icon. Notifications go straight to the desktop over D-Bus, without notify-send.

Fixed

  • Adding clusters from a kubeconfig file you picked in the Welcome screen read the default kubeconfig instead of that file.
  • The Welcome screen offers to choose a kubeconfig file when none is found in $KUBECONFIG or ~/.kube/config.

Roam Desktop 1.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@RichardPham201 RichardPham201 released this 02 Oct 11:57

Roam Desktop 1.1.1: see everything a Pod runs with, and logs for every workload.

New

  • Full environment on the Pod page: the Containers tab now lists every variable the container actually gets. ConfigMaps and Secrets pulled in with envFrom are expanded key by key, env entries win in the same order the kubelet applies, and values from the Pod itself (name, IP, node, labels) or resource limits are filled in. Variables that replace an earlier one are tagged, and you can filter long lists.
  • Secret values stay hidden until you reveal one, and reveals are logged as on the Secret page.
  • Missing ConfigMaps, Secrets or keys are flagged, and Roam tells them apart from ones you don't have access to read.
  • DaemonSet logs: DaemonSets get the Logs button that streams all their Pods, like Deployments and StatefulSets.
