What's new

The browser extension

• Updates itself after KuDownloader updates (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi). Before, the browser kept the copy it first loaded until you reloaded it by hand, so it kept the old icon. If yours still shows the old one, reload it once: open the browser's extensions page and click the reload button on KuDownloader. From now on it happens on its own.
• Also a download here: KuDownloader_0.2.26_browser-extension.zip, for Chromium browsers when the app's Browser integration isn't an option. Unzip it into a folder you keep, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Step by step: docs.
• Firefox: install from Firefox Add-ons.

New logo everywhere

• Android notifications, the quick-settings tile and themed icons now use the new logo too.
• After an update, Windows refreshes KuDownloader's icons, so shortcuts and pinned taskbar icons don't keep the old picture.

KuDownloader v0.2.25

A new look

KuDownloader has a new logo: the neon download arrow landing on a drive.

• Desktop: the app icon (taskbar, Start menu, Dock, desktop shortcut), the tray icon, the title bar and the About window.
• Android: the launcher icon, shaped to fit every launcher (round, squircle, teardrop), and the About screen.
• Browser extension and website too.

On Windows, a pinned taskbar icon may keep the old picture until Windows refreshes its icon cache (sign out and back in, or unpin and pin again).

What's new (desktop)

Compact progress window

• About 40% smaller. One line for the file name: a long name keeps its start and its end ("Windows11_24H2_…ps_going.iso"), so you always see the extension. The size never breaks across lines.
• The facts in one line: how much of the total, the speed with a small live graph, and the time left.
• Open or close when done, the per-download speed limit, and the details are still one click away.

Compact Download File window

• The name on one line, "From browser" folded into the info line, tighter fields, and labels stay beside the fields even in a narrow window.

Theme

• The progress and Download File windows follow the main window's theme right away, and the light / dark switch of your system when the theme is set to System.

What's new (desktop)

Redesigned progress window

• Clearer at a glance: a colour-coded file-type icon, the full name, where it comes from, its size and whether it can resume.
• Live speed graph of the last minute, and how many connections are working.
• When done: tick Open the file and/or Close this window. Your choices are remembered.
• Speed limit for this one download, changed live without pausing.
• Show in folder is always there. Closing the window keeps the download running (and now says so).
• Finished: size, folder, and Open. Failed: the reason in plain words, and Retry.

Download File window

• A colour-coded file icon, and the free space on the drive under Save As, in red when the file won't fit.

Fixes

• Every dropdown shows its arrow again in dark mode.

What's new (Android)

• Download videos on movie and streaming sites. Most of them play inside an embedded player from another site; the Download button now appears on those players too, and blob-based players download their real stream (HLS/DASH). DRM-protected services stay unsupported.
• Safari-style browser: the address bar sits at the bottom, in thumb reach, with the site name centred. It shrinks to the site name while you scroll down a page, and the tab bar steps aside, so the page gets the whole screen.
• Video formats show up faster: the browser reads a video page's formats once you've stayed on it a moment, so the download button usually has them ready, and More options opens instantly instead of reading them again.
• Frosted-glass download button in your theme's colour; the in-page Download pill too, with a blurred see-through background.

What's new

Android

• A fresh, premium look: floating tab bar with a sliding accent capsule, bold titles, gradient file icons and progress bars, softer cards.
• Pop-up ads and ad redirects blocked: pop-under tabs close themselves, and streaming sites can't redirect you to ad pages. Links you tap or type are never blocked. uBlock filters join the built-in lists.
• Browser tools in the menu: find in page, translate page, text size, data saver (no images), save as PDF, add to Home screen, download all images, and private tabs (on phones whose WebView supports them).
• Stay signed in: website logins are saved right after pages load, so closing the app doesn't sign you out.
• Video screen: paste, clear and go buttons in the address box, and your recent videos below.

Desktop

• Video Downloader: one click uses the link you copied; recent videos are listed with live status.
• Toolbar labels fit any window size and language; nothing is cut off at the right edge.
• Download progress on the taskbar icon.
• Help › Check for updates checks right away instead of opening About.
• Sidebar: only one item is highlighted, and no stray outline after clicking.

Signed releases

• Windows installer and app signed (Authenticode, SHA-256), macOS app signed ad hoc, Android APKs signed with KuDownloader's permanent key.
• SHA256SUMS.txt lists the checksum of every file. See SIGNING.md for how to verify.
• These signatures prove the files are genuine and unchanged. They don't remove Windows SmartScreen or macOS "unidentified developer" prompts, which need paid certificates.

KuDownloader v0.2.18

What's new

Faster videos

• Video formats load about twice as fast: a YouTube link shows its qualities in ~2.5 s instead of ~5 s. KuDownloader now uses yt-dlp's faster-starting build and skips work it doesn't need; every quality is still listed.

Ready out of the box (desktop)

• yt-dlp and FFmpeg install themselves on first start, checked against their publishers' checksums. Videos just work, no trip to Settings.

Menu bar

• Tidier menus with more in them: queues, speed limit, what to do when downloads finish, list shortcuts (Ctrl+1–4), sidebar toggle, documentation, what's new and more.
• New Settings menu that jumps straight to any settings section.

KuDownloader v0.2.17

Android users: reinstall once

Earlier Android builds were not signed with a fixed key, so the in-app update could not install over them. From 0.2.17 every release is signed with KuDownloader's permanent key.

Uninstall KuDownloader, then install this APK. Files you downloaded stay in Download/KuDownloader. From here on, Update now installs in one tap.

What's new

Android

• Stream or send to your PC: press and hold the browser's download button. Stream online plays the video in your video player without downloading; Send to PC has a KuAirSend computer download it.
• Clear button (✕) in the Video downloader's address box.
• About screen text is centred.

Everywhere

• Fixed "File name too long" for videos with long titles (Facebook, Bengali, Hindi and more). Files get a short, clean name without view counts, emoji or hashtags; the full title and caption are still there to copy.
• Picking a palette switches to it right away: a light palette switches to Light, a dark one to Dark.

Copy a video's title or caption

• Android: a copy button sits next to the video title (YouTube, Facebook and more): copy the title, the caption, or both. It's there before you download (quality sheet, video screen) and after (download details).
• Desktop: copy the title and caption from the details panel.

Themes

• Two anime light themes, Sakura and Sora, on desktop and Android. Sakura is cherry-blossom pink; Sora is sky blue.
• Cyberpunk on Android: neon, glitching progress bars and network graph.
