FRIEND.OS v1.0.0

An AI memory that remembers what was waiting for what.

FRIEND.OS is a local-first personal AI memory system designed to remember relationships between events, tasks, and dependencies — not just isolated facts.

✨ What it does

FRIEND.OS can recognize relationships such as:

"I'll submit my internship application after I receive my certificate."

Later:

"I received my certificate today."

FRIEND.OS recognizes that the dependency has been satisfied and proactively surfaces:

Something just clicked

→ Submit internship application

It can also detect when you're about to act before completing a prerequisite:

"I'll eat dessert after I finish rice."

followed by:

"I'll eat dessert now."

FRIEND.OS can respond:

You're forgetting something…

Eat rice first.

🧠 Local AI

FRIEND.OS uses:

  • Qwen3 4B
  • Ollama
  • SQLite
  • FastAPI
  • Next.js
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Tailwind CSS

The AI model runs locally through Ollama.

Qwen3 helps understand and structure memories, while deterministic logic handles dependency state and evidence matching.

🔒 Local-first

Your memories are stored locally.

FRIEND.OS does not require an OpenAI API key for its core workflow.

After Ollama and the Qwen3 4B model are installed, FRIEND.OS is designed to operate without an internet connection.

🪟 Windows

Installer

Download:

FRIEND.OS-Setup.exe

The installer provides a guided first-run setup for the local AI environment.

Portable version

Download:

FRIEND.OS-Portable.zip

Extract and run FRIEND.OS.exe.

Requirements

  • Windows 10/11
  • Ollama
  • Qwen3 4B
  • Approximately 3 GB+ available storage for the model and application

No separate Python, Node.js, or Uvicorn installation is required for the packaged Windows application.

⚠️ Windows SmartScreen

The current Windows executable may display a SmartScreen warning because the application is not currently distributed with an Authenticode code-signing certificate.

The release does not require disabling Windows Defender or other security protections.

🧪 Tested

FRIEND.OS v1.0.0 has been tested for:

  • Memory creation
  • Dependency detection
  • Proactive "Something just clicked" insights
  • "You're forgetting something…" reminders
  • Dependency satisfaction
  • Memory deletion
  • Evidence deletion semantics
  • Database reset
  • Demo scenarios
  • SQLite persistence
  • Windows installer
  • Portable build
  • Offline/local AI operation

Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge

Built for the DEV/Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge:

Build for a Friend

The project explores how open-source AI can make personal memory more useful while keeping the core memory experience local and transparent.
