FontDrop v2.5.0

  • FontDrop now runs on macOS 11 and later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. It does everything the Windows version does: opens nested zips, skips fonts you already have, replaces older versions, finds duplicates, previews fonts and undoes the last install.
  • On a Mac, "Just Me" installs to your Fonts folder and "Everyone" installs for every account on the Mac. If your account can't change shared fonts, FontDrop asks for an administrator password once for the whole install.
  • Fonts that came with macOS are never replaced, removed or installed twice.
  • The Mac version has a proper menu bar, ⌘ shortcuts, Settings in the FontDrop menu, and opens folders and zips dropped on its Dock icon or opened with Open With in Finder.
  • Updates on a Mac download the new app, check its checksum and swap it in, like on Windows.

  • The "…" menu and the right-click menu on a font now match the rest of the app: rounded corners, accent highlight, shortcut hints, and light and dark mode. They also work with the arrow keys, Enter and Esc.

  • FontDrop now follows a "free to use, pay if it helps you" model. The trial is 40 days; after it, everything keeps working and installing shows a polite reminder (Continue, Buy FontDrop or Enter License Key). Nothing is ever locked.
  • A license removes the reminder. A revoked license now just brings the reminder back, and the command line prints the reminder and carries on.
  • The license is now $25, one time, and the website says so: free to use, pay if it helps you.
  • Website, Store notes and admin wording updated to match.

  • Smoother animations: dialogs fade and glide in, notifications slide in on a fixed time curve, and nothing is resized frame by frame.
  • Dragging the sidebar or preview dividers no longer stutters.
  • The font preview draws in the background, so the size slider and preview text stay responsive.
  • Searching waits for you to pause typing instead of rebuilding the list on every key.
  • FontDrop now has a 14-day free trial. After it, scanning, previewing and Font Health keep working, and installing needs a license key.
  • Buy at fontdrop.curiolabs.dev and enter the key under Settings > License (paste it or choose the license file). Keys are checked on your PC, with no sign-in and no internet.
  • New optional “Share anonymous usage” setting, asked once and off unless you say yes. It counts launches, installs and activations with a random id: never font names, file names, folders, your name or email.
  • The sidebar shows how many trial days are left; the command line install says why it stopped when the trial is over.

  • Fixed the Install button's text colour in dark mode.
  • Smoother light/dark switching: the whole window, dialogs and title bar change together, and System mode follows Windows within a quarter of a second.
  • A redesigned status bar with a coloured badge, e.g. “23 fonts ready to install · 18 new, 5 updates”.
  • Releases and updates now come from the public fontdrop-releases repository.
