Bufflehead v0.30.0
⬆️ In-app updates
Bufflehead now knows its own version and checks GitHub for a newer stable release on startup and from Check for Updates…. A dialog shows the release notes, then downloads the platform package and verifies its size and SHA-256. On macOS, Install and Restart checks the new app's Developer ID signature, notarization, bundle ID and version before swapping it in place, keeping a backup until the new version starts. Copies that can't replace themselves (dev builds, apps run from a disk image, read-only locations) are offered the installer instead. On Windows and Linux, the verified download is handed to you to install. Set BUFFLEHEAD_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1 to opt out.
🔐 Postgres and MySQL through an SSH tunnel
Postgres and MySQL connections have a new SSH tunnel section for databases reachable only from inside a network. Bufflehead dials the jump host, forwards a local port, and connects through it. Auth is ssh-agent (falling back to your default keys), a named key file, or a password. Host keys are always checked against known_hosts.
📁 Drop a folder to open it
Dropping a folder used to fail with Catalog Error: Table with name … does not exist!. A folder now opens as its own connection. The schema sidebar lists the data-file patterns inside it (*.parquet, *.csv, …) with file counts and columns, and clicking one queries the whole set.
🪟 Menu bar on Windows
Windows windows now have a File / Help menu bar above the title bar, mirroring the macOS menu: New Window, New Tab, Open…, Connect to Gateway…, Close Tab, Open Recent, Exit, and Check for Updates…. Shortcuts are listed next to each item.
🐛 Fixes
- The database switcher opens under the database breadcrumb instead of at the mouse, so Refresh list no longer walks the panel across the screen.
- Folder glob patterns are normalized on Windows.
