Alcor GNU/Linux - Alpha 2
Alcor GNU/Linux Alpha 2 is now available. This release introduces Algol, an isolated container environment designed for cybersecurity, along with full BlackArch integration and improved system stability.
What is Algol?
Algol is an isolated, Arch Linux-based security environment that runs inside Alcor using distrobox and podman. Pre-configured with the BlackArch repositories, it allows you to run penetration testing and security tools safely without cluttering or affecting the host operating system.
Installation and Setup
-
Initialize the Algol environment on your first boot by running the setup script:
algol-init
-
Sync the package databases:
sudo pacman -Syy
Note: Always use -Syy to update the databases. Running sudo pacman -Sy can bypass the proper container routing and accidentally install security tools directly onto your host system.
-
Access the environment:
Once the initialization is complete, you can launch the Algol Terminal directly from your application menu.
Alpha 2 Release Notes and Known Issues
The terminal window may occasionally freeze on the first launch. If you encounter this bug, simply close and reopen the terminal application. This affects both the host terminal and the Algol terminal wrapper.
