System Fixes can fix a frozen taskbar and blank icons now — and neither needs administrator rights.
Two of the most common things people actually complain about had no one-click fix on the tab named for
fixes: a taskbar that stops responding, and icons that come up blank or wrong. Both are on System Fixes
now, in their own group clearly marked as needing no administrator rights, above the repairs that do. The
icon fix is not the same as the cache category in Deep Cleanup: Windows holds those cache files open while
it runs, so clearing them from a cleanup scan gets only the ones that are not the problem. This one closes
the desktop first, clears all of them, and brings the desktop straight back.

Added

  • Restart Windows Explorer, on System Fixes. For a taskbar that has stopped responding, a Start menu
that will not open, or a desktop with no icons. The command already existed on the Context Menu tab,
where nobody with a frozen taskbar would think to look for it.
  • Rebuild icon & thumbnail cache, on System Fixes. Stops Explorer, clears the icon and thumbnail
caches, and starts it again — and starts it again even if the clearing fails, because being left
without a desktop would be far worse than a cache that did not clear. Reports exactly how many files it
cleared and how many were still in use, rather than claiming a success it did not get.
  • The System Fixes card list is now grouped, into "Repair Windows itself" (needs administrator
rights) and "Fix the desktop and taskbar" (does not). Without the split, the tab's elevation banner
spoke for every button on the page, so a user without administrator rights would reasonably assume
    nothing there worked for them.

Changed

  • The Explorer restart is now one shared implementation used by both tabs, instead of living on the
context-menu service. It ends each Explorer instance individually, so one process that refuses to close
cannot abort the loop and leave you without a desktop — a second hand-written copy would almost
certainly have lost that, so a test now forbids one.

Fixed

  • Two tabs can no longer restart Explorer at the same time. Overlapping restarts can leave you with no
desktop at all. The Context Menu tab guarded against it within itself, but that guard could not see
another tab — and as of this release another tab can start one. Both now take a shared lock, which is
deliberately separate from the one the long repairs use: an SFC scan runs for up to fifteen minutes, and
a frozen taskbar during one still has to be fixable.

Verify the download

Get-FileHash .\SysManager-v1.108.0.exe -Algorithm SHA256

Expected SHA256: F41CB53B91E56E2B65A8713FF639A388EA3F48AF248DE5F83E045C6E5A90EB44

This build is not code-signed, so Windows will warn on first launch. That is
expected for a small independent app: see what the warning says and what to
click
.
Code signing is planned through the SignPath Foundation,
which provides free certificates to open-source projects, with signing performed by
SignPath.io. Until then, the SHA256 above and the build
attestation below are what establish that a download is the genuine build.

Code signing policy

This release is not code-signed. The team roles, release-approval process and
privacy policy required by the SignPath Foundation programme
are documented in advance under Code signing
policy
. That
documentation is a prerequisite for applying, not evidence of a certificate. The
attribution line naming SignPath as the signing provider will appear here once a
certificate is actually issued.

This program will not transfer any information to other networked systems unless
specifically requested by the user or the person installing or operating it. Full
privacy policy.

Verify where this binary came from

This exe was built by GitHub Actions from this public source, and the build is
recorded in the Sigstore public transparency log. With the
GitHub CLI:

gh attestation verify .\SysManager-v1.108.0.exe --repo laurentiu021/SystemManager

That proves which commit and workflow produced this exact binary, something the
SHA256 file cannot show, since it is published alongside the exe it describes.
Each release also ships SysManager-v1.108.0.sbom.json, a CycloneDX inventory of
every dependency resolved for this build.
