Kimono MCP 0.6.1 — Local RAG & batched retrieval

One knowledge base. Your team. Your agents.

Standalone local code/docs RAG for MCP assistants, with optional AI-KIDO knowledge workflows. No Docker, npm or separate Node.js installation is needed for the VS Code extension.

Highlights

• Generic read-only RAG by default; select AI-KIDO mode explicitly.
• Root/nested .gitignore plus permanent dependency and sensitive-file exclusions.
• Compact path/line search results, up to 20 batched queries and 50 batched read ranges, scoped immutable snapshots and host-controlled corpus budgets.
• Embedded lexical/semantic engines, multilingual model and Node.js 24; portable stdio launcher for other MCP clients.
• Extension identity: ai-kido.kimono-mcp. Marketplace submission is a separate future step; this release publishes GitHub downloads only.

Installation and migration

Download the VSIX matching the extension host: macOS ARM64, Linux ARM64/x64 (glibc), or Windows x64. Use Extensions: Install from VSIX in VS Code 1.106+ with an MCP-capable client. Four-platform packaging/integration CI passed before publication.

Uninstall the older tatami.kimono-mcp development extension first to avoid duplicate MCP providers. Re-enter remote credentials; secrets and cache storage are not migrated between publisher identities. Existing AI-KIDO workspaces must explicitly select kimono.corpusMode: aikido.

Evidence, not a universal savings promise

The current Gemini 3.8 Flash / Copilot CLI pilot observed 71.4% less cumulative input and 52.0% less wall time on one implementation-planning pair. One repetition only; human review pending. The native research answer failed the JSON-format gate. These are exploratory measurements, not established equivalent-quality savings, billing reductions or multi-agent ROI.

Current report and limitations

Assets include four VSIX files, clean-source build provenance, native bundles and SHA256SUMS.txt. The unpublished v0.6.0 workflows were cancelled when the publisher choice changed; v0.6.1 supersedes that tag.
