This is a beta. It works, but it isn't finished. Install steps and help: https://ihateperfume.com/app/

Point your phone at a barcode or an ingredient list, and the app shows the fragrance and fragrance allergens in it, with a source for every flag. Free, with no ads, no analytics, and no account.

Which file?

  • ihateperfume.apk: for almost every Android phone. Same file as ihateperfume-1.0.0-beta.1-arm64.apk.
  • ihateperfume-1.0.0-beta.1-armeabi-v7a.apk: only for older 32-bit phones, if the other one won't install.

Needs Android 7.0 or newer. The only permission it asks for is the camera.

What it does

  • Scan a barcode. It checks our reviewed products on your phone first, then Open Beauty Facts, Open Products Facts, and openFDA.
  • Photograph an ingredient list, fix any words it misread, then see the results. Or type or paste a list.
  • See what's flagged and why, with a source for each flag and a page for each ingredient.
  • Keep your own list of ingredients you react to. Your list and recent scans stay on your phone.
  • Add a missing product with photos, ask us to find one, or report a wrong ingredient list.
  • Ingredient and product data update about once a day, or tap Update database.

Known gaps

  • Many barcodes come back "not found." Our product list is small, and adding products helps everyone.
  • Photo scans need a sharp, well-lit, flat label. On a curved bottle, you may need to type the part the photo missed.
  • Android only, English only, and mostly US products for now.
  • No feedback button in the app yet. Open an issue here, or use https://ihateperfume.com/contact/
  • The terms and privacy policy are drafts we're still finalizing.

Updating

Install the newer APK over the old one. Your list and recent scans stay.
