By default, the compute instance includes Java, NodeJS, and Python 3.

Java

The Java versions installed are OpenJDK 17 and 21.

The alternatives system can be used to switch versions:

$ java --version
openjdk 17.0.16 2025-07-15 LTS
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (Red_Hat-17.0.16.0.8-2.0.1) (build 17.0.16+8-LTS)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (Red_Hat-17.0.16.0.8-2.0.1) (build 17.0.16+8-LTS, mixed mode, sharing)

$ sudo update-alternatives --config java

There are 2 programs which provide 'java'.

  Selection    Command
-----------------------------------------------
*+ 1           java-17-openjdk.aarch64 (/usr/lib/jvm/java-17-openjdk-17.0.16.0.8-2.0.1.el9.aarch64/bin/java)
   2           java-21-openjdk.aarch64 (/usr/lib/jvm/java-21-openjdk-21.0.8.0.9-1.0.1.el9.aarch64/bin/java)
