v0.23.3 — the laptop wakes up, and so does the music
MP3 songs you haven't split yet — and MP3 tracks you've added to a song — now play on SingZ's own audio engine, read a little at a time as they play instead of being unpacked whole into memory first. A six-minute MP3 used to cost about 140 MB of memory just to open. On the computer, a Windows laptop that slept with a song paused, or lost its audio device another way, no longer leaves every song silent until you restart SingZ.
Windows:
- A nap no longer silences SingZ until you restart it. Pause a song,
let the laptop sleep, come back — and Windows has quietly swapped the
audio device out from under the paused song. SingZ then refused to let
go of that song: adding a track, opening another song or pressing Play
did nothing, however many times you pressed it, until you closed and
reopened the app. Losing the audio device any other way — a USB or
Bluetooth headset unplugged, speakers switched off in Windows — could
do the same. Now the old song lets go, and the next Play
starts on whatever output Windows has now.
Everywhere:
- MP3s play without unpacking the whole song first. An MP3 you haven't
split yet, or an MP3 you added to a song as your own track, used to be
decoded in full before the first note — about 140 MB of memory for a
six-minute song, on every open. SingZ now reads MP3s the way it already
read its FLAC stems: a little at a time, as the song plays, with seeks
that land on the exact sample.
