Reference Guard 0.3.4 — Zotero 10 Compatibility

Choose a tag to compare

@liangliu-nlp liangliu-nlp released this 27 Sep 06:07

Fixes Reference Guard being disabled as incompatible with Zotero 10. Supports Zotero 9.0 through 10.0.x.

  • Includes the updated compatibility declaration in the installable XPI and a matching automatic-update entry with a verified SHA-256 hash.
  • Preserves the existing PDF link navigation and temporary highlighting behavior.

Install reference-guard.xpi from this release through Zotero's Plugins window, or use Check for Updates once the update manifest is published.

Validation: existing regression tests, bootstrap and reader syntax checks, and packaged-file/version/hash checks passed. Reader interfaces were checked against Zotero 10.0.3 source; interactive PDF testing remains pending. Highlighting applies to the standard PDF view, not the new reflowed Reading Mode.

Reference Guard 0.3.3 — Precise PDF Coordinate Hit-Testing

@liangliu-nlp liangliu-nlp released this 18 Jul 03:39

Fixed

  • Keep native PDF annotation hit-testing entirely in the PDF iframe's local coordinate space.
  • Prevent ordinary text selection, including the reported decoded case, from being misclassified as a reference link.
  • Preserve exact reference navigation, the 2-second target highlight, and single-step reader back navigation.

Validation

  • Added a regression test for shifted iframe coordinates.
  • Verified in Zotero that selecting decoded stays on page 1 with no link-hit event.
  • Verified that [Wei et al., 2022] still jumps to the correct reference and highlights it.

Navigation reliability fix

  • Prevents Zotero's native pointer-up navigation from competing with Reference Guard for plugin-owned internal PDF links.
  • Supports both semantic destinations such as cite... and opaque destinations such as PAX@....
  • Keeps exact named-destination navigation and the two-second yellow target highlight.
  • Restores the pre-jump position with a single back action (Alt + Left).
  • Preserves native Zotero behavior for unmatched links and PDFs without usable internal annotations.

Validated in Zotero with both DemoPSD and A Probabilistic Inference Scaling Theory for LLM Self-Correction.

@liangliu-nlp liangliu-nlp released this 12 Jul 13:17

Reference Guard 0.3.1

Reference Guard 0.3.1 is a reliability update for the first usable formal release.

Fixed

  • Keep /XYZ destination highlighting in the intended PDF column.
  • Rank target text by its start point instead of allowing an overlapping line from another column to win.
  • Preserve vertical-only FitH matching and the native annotation-to-destination navigation path.
  • Reduce the visible highlight duration from 4.5 seconds to 2 seconds.

Validation

  • JavaScript syntax validation passed.
  • Annotation mapping and multi-column regression tests passed.
  • All reference destinations on the affected test PDF pages were replayed.
  • Kang, Nie, and Austin targets were verified in Zotero Reader.

Installation

Download reference-guard.xpi, open Zotero's Plugins window, drag the XPI into it, and restart Zotero.

@liangliu-nlp liangliu-nlp released this 12 Jul 12:11

Reference Guard 0.3.0

Reference Guard 0.3.0 is the first usable formal release of the project.

这是 Reference Guard 首个可使用的正式版本。

Highlights

  • Replaces unreliable post-click citation guessing with a pre-indexed native PDF annotation flow, informed by Google Scholar PDF Reader 0.5.2 and independently implemented for Zotero.
  • Maps the clicked annotation rectangle directly to its named destination, page, and PDF coordinates.
  • Navigates through Zotero's reader API and highlights the nearest target text item in the same viewport geometry.
  • Avoids heuristic jumps for scanned, flattened, or malformed PDFs without internal link annotations.
  • Documents the current architecture, limitations, installation, testing, and packaging workflow.

Compatibility and verification

  • Tested with Zotero 9.
  • JavaScript syntax validation passed.
  • Annotation-mapping tests passed.
  • Exact live reference destination and single-target highlight were verified in Zotero Reader.

Installation

Download reference-guard.xpi, open Zotero's Plugins window, and drag the XPI into it. Restart Zotero after installation.
