Release list
PokeDaisy 1.1.4
Fixes
- No more screen tearing. Scrolling in a game (walking around a town, for example) could show a line across the screen, with half of one frame over half of the next. The game screen now only shows finished frames, as RetroArch does.
- Steady fast-forward music works in Pokémon Heart and Soul. It used to fall back to sped-up sound there. Both of its soundtracks are recorded, so whichever one you play with keeps its normal speed in fast-forward. The first time you open the game, its music is recorded in the background.
PokeDaisy 1.1.3
New
- Cheats: GameShark, Action Replay and CodeBreaker codes for each game. Add or import them in Settings > CHEATS (or a game's library menu > CHEATS), and turn them on or off from the companion's SETTINGS > CHEATS. RetroAchievements pauses while any cheat is on.
- Phones held upright: the game sits across the top with the companion docked under it. Drag the grip to resize it, or tap it to step through small, normal and full.
- External controllers (8BitDo, GameSir, Xbox, ...) connect mid-game without restarting it. HOME / guide acts as BACK for the companion, and the touch controls hide once a controller is used.
- Shaders: a new LCD PAPER filter, a GRID strength setting, and ON COMPANION, which puts the filter and GBA COLORS on the companion screen too (Android 13+).
- Companion settings: RESUME GAMES, CLOSE COMPANION, the status bar over the companion, and TWEAKS (icon bounce, map cursor blink, tab animations, jump to battle).
- New look: the PokéDaisy theme is the new default for the library and settings, with a new app icon. The game-coloured themes are still in Settings > THEME.
- Website: pokedaisy.web.app has a ROM checker that runs in your browser, so your ROM is never uploaded.
ROMs
- New languages: FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby and Sapphire in Spanish, German, French, Italian and Japanese, plus English Ruby / Sapphire rev 0.
- Emerald in Spanish, German, French, Italian and Japanese. Pokémon, moves, items and places show in the game's language.
- Pokémon Yellow is back, now with sound, steady fast-forward music, touch battle controls and a Pokédex.
- New versions: Pokémon Amethyst 1.4.1 and a second build of SoulGold 1.2.
Changes
- Fast-forward defaults to 2× (it was 6×). Pick another speed in SETTINGS > FF SPEED.
- A, B, X and Y are no longer swapped by default on AYN and Retroid devices. This only applies to new installs: if you're updating, your buttons stay as they are. You can remap them in SETTINGS > GAME BUTTONS.
Fixes
- Updates open Android's own installer, not another app that opens APKs.
- On Android 8-10, storage access and the folder picker work (the picker opens on internal storage, not Downloads).
- Pokémon Yellow was silent, and its companion was slow.
PokeDaisy 1.1.2
New
- Single-screen devices: the companion is now a side panel. Tap BACK to slide it over the game. Tap the padlock tab to lock it next to the game, and drag the tab to resize it. Tested on the Retroid Pocket 6.
- SWAP SCREENS (SETTINGS > SCREEN, dual-screen devices only): puts the game on the second display and the companion on the main one, for devices whose main display is the bottom screen, like the Anbernic RG DS. Not tested on an RG DS yet.
- Shaders (SETTINGS > SHADERS, on either screen): LCD, SCANLINES and CRT filters, plus GBA COLORS. You can use a filter and GBA COLORS together.
- Wider companion layouts for 16:9 screens: the party shows in 3 columns, and the map keeps its shape.
- Updates now open Android's installer directly.
ROMs
- New: Pokémon SoulGold 1.2.
- SoulGold / Lazarus: the full party shows, eggs are marked, and SoulGold's icons have the right colors.
Fixes
- Fixed crashes, high memory use and CPU spikes when switching tabs.
- SWAP SCREENS no longer disappears from SETTINGS after swapping.
PokeDaisy 1.1.0
Read this first: the app was renamed
PokeDaisey is now PokeDaisy. Android treats it as a new app, so the in-app updater installs it next to the old one instead of replacing it. Deleting the old PokeDaisey isn't mandatory, but if you don't, your device will show both apps.
If your ROMs and saves live in your own folders (like RetroArch's), just point the new app at them in the first-time setup. Only saves kept in the old app's own folder (Android/data/com.pokedaisey.app/) need copying out before you uninstall. Settings start fresh. If you launch from iiSU or ES-DE, the target is now com.pokedaisy.app/.LaunchActivity.
New
- RetroAchievements (beta, softcore only): CHEEVOS tab, unlock popups, leaderboards, the game's own fanfare on every unlock. Sign in from the top-screen Settings. Hardcore isn't supported yet: RA doesn't accept it from an unrecognised emulator, and it would need save-state loads and touch battle input blocked.
- IVs, EVs, nature and Hidden Power on the party summary (STATS), and in battle INFO next to the foe's (foe IVs: SETTINGS > FOE IVS, off by default).
- 6 languages for the app's text: English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish (LANGUAGE in Settings).
- Zipped ROMs (
.zip,.7z), clean game names, RetroAchievements box art as a cover source, Library Refresh results. - Stretch option for 16:9 top screens, a second START/SELECT on X/Y, hotkeys on/off.
- Setup guides for launching from iiSU and ES-DE.
ROMs
- New: Pokémon SoulGold 1.1.4.
- Lazarus: region map, touch battle controls, STEADY fast-forward music.
- Radical Red: correct names, moves, items and sprites.
- Emerald Seaglass: battle tab, move types and its own map.
Fixes
- A resume state could overwrite a changed save with a blank one. Resume now checks the save first, and every start backs it up (RESTORE BACKUP in the Library).
- Releasing one of two held keys (START + X) no longer releases the other.
- The BATTLE tab no longer opens empty on games with unmapped battle data.
PokeDaisy 1.0.4
The first public release of PokeDaisy: Gen 3 Pokémon on the top screen, and a live companion for the game you're playing on the bottom screen.
Devices: AYN Thor (tested). Retroid Pocket Duo / Duo Lite should work but haven't been tried on real hardware yet.
No games are included. Use your own legally dumped ROMs.
Install
- Download
PokeDaisey-1.0.4.apkbelow and open it on the device. Allow installing from your browser or file manager when Android asks. - On first launch, setup walks you through linking your ROMs folder, choosing a saves folder (another emulator's, such as RetroArch's, works), and optionally adding a SteamGridDB key for cover art.
The app checks for new versions each time it opens and offers to update. You can also check from Settings > VERSION.
What's in it
- Companion: party, bag, battle info and suggestions, map, Pokédex, guide (where to go, the next boss, evolutions), trainer card and save states, all in the game's own menu style.
- Player: smart fast-forward, fast-forward music, slow motion, save states with undo, status bar, remappable buttons and hotkeys, themes.
- Library: covers, recently played, rename, hide, load a save file into a game (the current save is kept as a dated backup), and per-game info. Works with ES-DE, Cocoon and iiSU.
Supported games
FireRed, LeafGreen, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Pokémon Unbound, Radical Red, Gaia, Odyssey, Heart and Soul, Amethyst, Celia's Stupid Romhack, Lazarus, Emerald Seaglass, Too Many Types 2 and Emerald Rogue. See the README for exact versions and what works in each. Other GBA games play, without the companion.
