Disasteroids Netlink Beta 1.0 - Community Release

slinga-homebrew's 12-player Asteroids for the Sega Saturn, now with online multiplayer via the NetLink modem.

Features

  • Classic Asteroids gameplay with 3D polygon meshes, CD audio soundtrack, and PCM sound effects
  • Up to 12 players online through the NetLink modem
  • Server-authoritative netcode with client-side prediction for responsive controls
  • Dual local players on one Saturn (multitap or Port B)
  • Server-hosted bot players to fill out matches
  • Persistent online leaderboard tracking wins, best scores, and games played
  • Lobby with ready-up, color indicators, winner display, and stats overlay (hold Z)

Online Setup

  • DreamPi supported out of the box — drop-in netlink.py + config.ini
  • Windows bridge included — double-click start_bridge.bat and pick your COM port
  • Self-hosted servers supported via included Python server + systemd service file

What's in the download

  1. Game Files folder has everything you need: game disc files (load game.cue for music)
  2. Homebrew server connection tools, and a README with full setup instructions.

Known limitations

  • This is a beta — expect rough edges with network timing and edge cases
  • Requires a NetLink modem, phone line, and a USB modem or DreamPi on the PC side
