UNDERTALE, playable by ear — v1.1. A big quality-of-life update to the NVDA accessibility mod, made and tested by a blind player who beat the whole game with it.

New in v1.1

  • Auto-walk (V): pick something with the scanner, press V, and it walks you there with real pathfinding around walls and hazards. Press V again (or any move key) to stop.
  • Accessibility menu (K): an in-game menu to turn features on/off (screen reading, scanning, puzzle skip, navigation sounds, combat cues), set the difficulty mode, and set music volume — and it remembers your choices. Also reachable from the title screen as "Accessibility options".
  • Navigation sounds: soft footsteps as you walk, a thud at walls, a door sound through doorways, and a bell when something interactable is right beside you.
  • Music volume keys (N / B): turn the music down or up so the cues come through.
  • Blue-soul (jump) cue for Papyrus and green-soul (shield) cue for Undyne — beeps tell you when to jump / which way to block.
  • Cleaner scanner: wide doors and signs are no longer listed several times, and ice-slide tiles no longer flood the list with fake "exits".

Install

  1. Download Undertale-NVDA-Access.zip below and unzip it.
  2. Close UNDERTALE, then run Install (Install.bat).
  3. It auto-finds your game, backs it up, and patches it in seconds. Run Uninstall anytime to revert.

Everything the installer says is spoken by NVDA.

Requirements

  • Windows · UNDERTALE on Steam, v1.08 (the installer checks and refuses safely if your version differs) · NVDA running while you play.

What's covered

All dialogue, menus, walk-by-ear navigation (now with auto-walk), battles, the FIGHT timing bar, attack-dodging (with assist/slow/normal modes), the jump and shield soul fights, area puzzles (with a skip option for purely visual ones), shops, elevators, the Mettaton quiz, and the final boss.

See KEYS.txt in the download for the full controls. Feedback from other players is very welcome.

UNDERTALE is by Toby Fox. This is an unofficial fan project and includes no game files — it only patches the copy you already own.
