Road Rash 64 Recompiled 1.1

  • Added local-player controller setup and editable player names.
  • Added a unified Draw Distance slider for terrain and objects, 21:9 support, and a 30–240 FPS presentation slider.
  • Improved rider/bike LOD and split-screen performance; fixed distant floating weapon effects.
  • Unified original and custom music volume controls and restored controller bumper navigation in settings.
  • Removed forced multiplayer catch-up teleporting and the “CATCH UP!” warning.
  • Fixed dependency checksum/checkout issues and RecompFrontend dependency setup; cleaned unused code and added contributor notes.

Diagnostics are off by default. Online multiplayer remains early and very untested.

Provide your own legally obtained Road Rash 64 USA v1.0 ROM. No ROM or soundtrack is included. The optional Remastered Edition texture conversion is credited to Crisaty (Cristian A.T.); see CREDITS.md and the included notices. Full tool/library credits and AI-development disclosure remain in the README.

Release 1.0 — Road Rash 64 Recompiled

@linkssy2 linkssy2 released this 07 Sep 06:57

The first public release of this unofficial Windows recompilation. Application version 1.0.0.

Bring your own legally obtained Road Rash 64 USA v1.0 ROM. No ROM or soundtrack is included. Download the Win64 ZIP below, extract it fully, open RoadRash64Recompiled.exe, select your ROM and choose Start Game.

Includes presentation improvements targeting smooth 60 FPS, MAX LOD and world-distance options, widescreen/high-resolution presentation, controller and keyboard remapping, custom music rotation, persistent saves, local achievements, mod support and a direct-start executable.

Online multiplayer is early and very untested. Connection, synchronization, race completion and larger sessions still need substantial testing. The release owner reports successful live testing and a successful source build by another person on a different computer. Thirty offline regression checks passed; this does not guarantee reliable online play.

Credits and purpose

I wanted a childhood game to be playable in all its glory on PC. I do not claim credit for the original game, recompilation technology, renderer, libraries or other people's artwork. Credit belongs to their creators and contributors.

Built using N64Recomp, N64ModernRuntime, RT64 and RecompFrontend. See all credits and third-party notices.

AI was used extensively in development, debugging, documentation and parts of the artwork. I am sorry to those disappointed or concerned by that choice. I want to disclose it openly, and I remain responsible for addressing defects. Upstream projects do not endorse this release.

Optional texture conversion

Road Rash 64 Remastered Edition — original mod and artwork by Crisaty (Cristian A.T.). The Windows ZIP includes an RT64 conversion of that original Jabo texture pack in optional-mods. Install the RTZ through Settings > Mods; replace an older copy rather than installing duplicates. All original artwork credit belongs to its creator. No endorsement by the creator is claimed.

Source, bugs and discussion

Build instructionsBug reports and suggestionsDiscussionsContribution guidelines

The Source ZIP contains build inputs and pinned dependency patches, excluding the ROM, generated game-code output and the optional texture pack. The Windows executable already contains native translations of game routines; it reads game content from your ROM. See LEGAL.md for distribution limitations, including unresolved dependency licensing. This project does not claim blanket legal clearance.

Never upload ROMs or private data to this repository. SHA256SUMS.txt contains checksums for the two release ZIPs.
