[BUG] New Selkies-based image is unreliable

Current Behavior

The new Selkies images aren't reliable for me. Interactions are lagged, and clicks don't seem to be registering 100% of the time.

I'm using the latest image as of today, but I tried a few earlier ones. Migrating back to 8.6 with Kasm is flawless.

Expected Behavior

• Mouse clicks are registered where I click
• UI should not be lagged

Steps To Reproduce

This workflow is reproducible for me in both Chrome and Safari:

• Open Preferences
• Click "Sharing over Net"
• Try to check or uncheck the "Run server automatically...." checkbox
• Notice nothing happens.
• Try clicking just above the box -- and it works

Basically it indicates X was not running when the server started, we have retries on init so it fixes itself but it makes me wonder what are the full specs on this synology ?

I can't reproduce this. I've been using calibre based on selkies for a few weeks now and didn't have such issues.

I use it in Chrome desktop and mobile, on devices with different resolutions. Even on a mobile phone with the trackpad mode, the clicks are accurate and there is no delay.

I see you mentioned Synology. What is the kernel on that? Also are you accessing over lan or wan?

My advice would be to turn down the FPS, 60 is default but you might need to cap it at 30 or lower on your system. (clientside setting)

Hmm it has AVX2 support should be decent I can push 60 off old AWS instances with SSE xeons, but the proto only renders the frames it needs. jpeg mode is basically how the KasmVNC image used to work, does that work any better for you, also does turning down the framerate help ?

Oh and the resulting resolution matters too, if you are on a client that is hiDPI (macbook etc) disable hidpi that is also how kasmvnc used to work. So it could be trying to push 4k instead of 1080p as it did previously (it is in screen settings)

When I set screen to 100%, all my clicks are correct. Changing to 125 or 150 makes things off... 100% isn't really usable on my Mac's high DPI display though.

Yeah on that celron I would not try to scale the content you should just turn hidpi off and leave it off. That proc cannot push 4k.
The main thing that is biting you is that hiDPI is default on where in the kasm base it was default off.

So just to re-iterate 100% scaling with hidpi off.

Naw lets dig deeper here, you can use jpeg mode for true RGB if you have readability issues or 4:4:4 if your browser supports it, and your mouse clicks being off should not be happening that is bulletproof and tested to death. Here is my setup at 200% then to scale the app you can close and open it (the title bars are scaled if you restart the container) both HiDPI and non.

I've fixed my compose to image: lscr.io/linuxserver/calibre:8.6.0 as the latest was resulting in a black screen with "Waiting for Steam"
I did try modifying all the settings mentioned, without any change in outcome after restarting the container.

JPEG vs 4:4:4 vs x264enc doesn't affect the results. The text is crisper in KASM, and KASM settings does appear to have things related to text anti-aliasing. I don't find any such settings in Selkies.
