Codexless 0.1.2-preview.1 — running progress and in-turn steer (Technical Preview)

What's new

• codex.agent_show reports bounded current progress (latest agent update, plan, active item and event cursor) without exposing hidden reasoning or raw command output.
• codex.agent_steer sends additional instructions to the exact active Codex turn, bound to expectedTurnId and a stable requestId. Stale turns, duplicate submissions, pending approvals and uncertain transport remain fail-closed/no-blind-replay.
• Updated English/Chinese usage guidance, source/version checks, and Windows installer/doctor behavior for the 45-tool public surface.

Acceptance

• Windows x64 and Apple Silicon macOS complete npm test PASS on the candidate source.
• Isolated native installation/update with installed Doctor ok on both platforms, using buildId 8992710171ef888ca766f2941061265bb99fb2e7098352addc4d7bda31c0a212.
• Installed Public stdio exposes 45 tools, including codex.agent_show and codex.agent_steer, on both platforms; unknown-agent controls do not dispatch.
• Installed Public Browser Chrome open/read/close passed on Windows and macOS. A separate Windows Edge read/close probe returned BROWSER_TAB_BUSY and is not claimed as passed.
• Deterministic progress/steer lifecycle tests PASS. Real metered in-turn steer was not completed: an approved Task ID had expired across an independent stdio process restart. No model execution was claimed for that attempt.

This preview is published as a source/tag release.

Highlights:

• Public surface is 44 tools, including six typed Excel tools for workbook status/read/search/write/format operations.
• Browser support covers Chrome and Edge on the public lane. Windows Chrome/Edge and Apple Silicon macOS Chrome completed native installed open/read/close acceptance; macOS Edge was also confirmed connected through the installed lane.
• Call Codex in normal Chat uses fixed-text Approval / Result rather than the retired Task Card presentation. Approval delivery is bound to the exact prepared task and must preserve quota information without freezing one particular quota-window display format.
• Public CUA and the broader dynamic Excel gateway remain out of this preview.
• README/setup wording was aligned to the current public surface and current ChatGPT-side MCP availability; retired Task Card images and teaching were removed.

Release acceptance used the exact frozen source on both native platforms with fresh isolated install/state roots. Installed public stdio exposed the intended 44-tool contract, and fixed-text Approval tests were declined without executing Codex.

To move to a later preview, obtain that newer source/tag and run the same platform installation command again.

• Keeps the original Codex approval card and adds dynamic reasoning-effort visibility/selection, with exact approved-effort binding at execution time.
• Portable fallback mirrors the full approval-card information when rich UI is unavailable, replacing buttons with explicit Yes/No replies.
• Restores household/public Browser parity and hardens Browser runtime compatibility across current Windows and Apple Silicon macOS Codex plugin layouts.
• Browser-only runtime isolation now ignores unrelated user MCP servers instead of probing or waiting on them.
• Exact Windows and Apple Silicon macOS release artifacts were installed and exercised through Browser status + fresh open/read/close Goldens before publication.
