ARInsideJ is a Java port of ARInside against the BMC AR
System Java API (com.bmc.arsys.api), instead of the original C++ tool's C API. It generates
the same kind of static HTML documentation site for a BMC Remedy AR System server - forms/fields,
active links, filters, escalations, menus, containers, users/groups/roles, images, and the
cross-reference graph between all of them ("what uses this field", "what calls this filter", etc.)

  • from either a live server connection or an offline AR System Administrator .xml/.def export.

This port exists because BMC stopped updating the C API past 9.1.0, and several of its bulk calls
fail against modern (21+) AR servers. The Java API doesn't have that problem and is still actively
maintained.

Highlights

  • Full object coverage: forms/fields/VUIs, active links, filters, escalations, menus, containers
    (guides/applications/packing lists/filter guides/webservices), users/groups/roles, images, plus
    the validator/analyzer/custom-workflow pages.
  • Two offline import formats (.xml and .def AR System Administrator exports), both parsed fully
offline with no server connection required.
  • Overlay-aware (server 7.6.04+), with blacklist (packing-list-based exclusion), gzip output, CSV
export, and a --scope mode for fast one-form-at-a-time iteration.
  • Concurrent object fetching and page rendering, tunable via ReadConcurrency/WriteConcurrency.

Requirements to run

The AR System Java API (arapi) is proprietary and not on any public Maven repository. This
release's arinsidej.jar has it bundled in
so you can run it directly with no extra setup:

java -jar arinsidej.jar -i settings.ini -l Demo -p pass -s myserver

See settings.ini and the README for the full configuration reference. Building from source
instead requires installing your own copy of arapi/arlogger into your local Maven repo first -
see the README's "Requirements" section.

Known limitations

See the README's "Known Limitations" section - most notably, a small number of objects with an
active overlay can't have their hidden base layer reached by name through the current AR Java API.

Assets repackaged 2026-09-01 - the bundled BMC jars were removed.

arinsidej.jar no longer contains BMC's AR System Java API (arapi / arlogger); those are BMC proprietary and cannot be redistributed. Supply your own copy in a lib/ folder next to the jar. The .zip bundle includes lib/README.txt listing every BMC install the jars can be sourced from, and the jar manifest's Class-Path already points at lib/. Run with run-arinsidej.sh / run-arinsidej.bat, or java -cp "arinsidej.jar:lib/*" arinside.Main ... (; not : on Windows). This version's tool code is unchanged - see the current README.
