Repository navigation
2.11.0 is a big one. Aurral can now manage your music without Lidarr, the player and mobile experience have had a major overhaul, and you can share music from your Library with friends.
What's new
- Lidarr is optional. Aurral can monitor artists, download albums and individual tracks, and manage their files itself. Existing Lidarr setups still work, and Aurral keeps managing its own music when you connect Lidarr.
- Bring your existing music into Aurral with Settings > Library files > Import a folder. Copy, move, or hardlink files into the Downloads Folder, fill in missing tags, and choose whether to monitor tracks or complete their albums. Clean up Library organizes existing files and offers to remove duplicate copies.
- Choose what a monitored artist downloads with Settings > Monitoring or an artist's Monitoring rules… menu. Rules cover back catalogue, new releases, release types, standard or expanded editions, and top tracks. Preview what will download before saving. Individual tracks can be unmonitored, and Keep this file protects a copy you like from upgrades.
- The player has gapless playback, an editable queue, Play next, keyboard shortcuts, and better lock-screen controls. Reloading restores your queue, paused at the same track and position. Mobile navigation and Now playing have been rebuilt, with long-press menus and a queue you can reorder.
- Share artists, albums, and tracks through aurral.org. For music in your Library, Play from my Aurral lets friends listen to your copy through a temporary Cloudflare tunnel, even when your server is only on your home network. Downloads are optional, links can expire, and Profile > Shared links lets you stop sharing.
- Discover recommendations now use each person's own likes, plays, and listening history, and work without a Last.fm API key. Deezer editorial playlists replace the generated Discover mixes, with previews and synced imports. The old mixes are available as New flow templates. You can also import and sync public YouTube Music playlists.
- Full Subsonic and OpenSubsonic client support. Connect your preferred player directly to Aurral, including Feishin, Symfonium, Juliet, Lyris, iSub, Subsonic Player, and Music Assistant. Support includes saved play queues, embedded and sidecar lyrics, and transcoding for client format and bitrate limits. In Music Assistant, turn on legacy authentication to connect.
- Link Google, Plex, or SSO to your existing account and use it to sign in. Admins can suspend or disable accounts from Settings > Users.
- Change album and track artwork with an uploaded image or a direct image URL, including tracks in playlists and flows. Custom artwork appears in the web player and OpenSubsonic clients. Themes have new color controls, and Immersive mode controls artwork colors and background effects.
- Recover downloads directly from Activity. Cancel or restart active tracks, retry failed or cancelled downloads, and follow album downloads as grouped entries.
Fixes worth noticing
- Download matching checks the requested release and tracklist to avoid wrong editions, covers, and live versions. Soulseek outages and queued searches no longer fail downloads prematurely, and Usenet searches back off when an indexer rate-limits them.
- Playlist syncs and renames keep queued downloads. Deleting a playlist keeps Library files it reused, and deleting Library tracks removes their stale playlist entries.
- Shuffle plays every track, Library grids no longer blank while scrolling, and partially available albums are clearly marked. Artists and albums named in non-Latin scripts stay separate, and tracks keep their performer credits.
- Large libraries do less repeated scanning and metadata fetching. Memory use and idle background work are reduced, and media-server scans target changed folders where supported.
Things to try
- Import a small folder with Copy, then preview an artist's monitoring rules before downloading more music.
- Queue an album, reorder a few tracks, and reload to check the restored player. Try the Now playing view on your phone too.
- Connect your favorite Subsonic or OpenSubsonic client directly to Aurral and play your Library.
- Share a Library album with Play from my Aurral, set an expiry, and open the link on another device.
- Check Settings > System > Aurral 3.0 for outstanding migration work and settings to change before a future 3.0 upgrade.
Existing flows adopted from generated Discover mixes keep running. Older Last.fm editorial flows keep their tracks but no longer refresh.
