When the LM Studio system service is enabled, applying an in-app update fails with an error along the lines of "Couldn't remove old files after update." After the failed update, LM Studio continues to launch the old version. The system service likely keeps files locked, preventing the installer from replacing them.
To Reproduce
- Enable the LM Studio system service in Settings
- Wait for an update notification (or downgrade and wait for the prompt)
- Download and apply the update via the in-app prompt
- Installer throws an error; LM Studio remains on the old version
Workaround
Disable the system service in the settings before applying updates, the update then completes successfully. Re-enabling the service afterward works fine.
