Note

This is the first alpha release of Cloud Chamber — an early build for testing.

Cloud Chamber is a granular synthesizer: eight independent heads reading one sample you drop onto it,
each with its own loop region, motion and grain character. Play it from MIDI or leave it free-running
as a drone. Nothing else makes sound — there is no oscillator behind the grains.

Installing

  1. Install the Cmajor plugin (VST3 / AU) from cmajor.dev and add it to an
    instrument track in your DAW.
  2. Download CloudChamber-1.0.0-alpha.1.zip below and unzip it somewhere permanent.
  3. Drag CloudChamber.cmajorpatch from the unzipped CloudChamber folder onto the Cmajor plugin
    window.

Keep the files in the CloudChamber folder together — the patch loads its editor, styles and fonts
from there.

Playing

  • Drop an audio file anywhere on the editor to load it. Samples up to an hour long are accepted;
anything over about 12 minutes is resampled to fit, and the waveform caption says so.
  • Play it from a MIDI track, or turn on Free Run to let it sound as a drone.
  • Only head one is enabled at first. Pick another head from the strip at the bottom of the window and
switch it on to layer it over the first.
  • Drag the waveform to set a head's loop region, and drag its line to move where it reads from.
  • The sample is saved with your DAW project, as long as the file is under 32MB. The waveform caption
tells you how much it adds to the project, or that it was too large to keep.
