QuickPane 3.10.0

This significant release fixes many bugs on save and open dialogs. A testing version was made to collect debug logs over the course of a month of daily use, and this data helped significantly in identifying the bugs and edge cases. Additionally, new features were added such as recent apps, ability to edit path was added, speed was improved, drag and drop was improved, items were added like This PC above the drives, SSH was added, settings were overhauled, glithes were fixed, and various minor bugs were fixed, among other updates. This is the most stable version of QuickPane yet and is production ready.

Added

  • Search box at the top of the pane that filters every folder as you type.
  • App Folders section, which offers the folder you set for the app whose Save or Open dialog the pane is in.
  • "Always start {app} here" on a folder's right-click menu inside a file dialog.
  • Recent Apps section listing the applications you have been using, each opening its app. The folder that app's dialog was last sent to is on the row's right-click menu.
  • Browser rows in Recent Apps open out into that browser's profiles, each opening its own.
  • Setting for which apps Recent Apps lists: the ones you open, the ones whose Save and Open dialogs you use, or both.
  • Keyboard shortcut that moves focus into the pane, off until you turn it on under Settings, Hotkeys.
  • This PC is a row of its own inside its section, opening This PC when clicked and expanding to the drives beneath it.
  • Drag files from Explorer onto any pane folder to move, copy, or create shortcuts, with Ctrl, Shift and Alt behaving as they do in Explorer.
  • Settings footer showing the running version and a Download button when a newer release is published.
  • Connections tab names both components an SSH mount needs, links each download, and offers the install commands to copy.
  • Reordering rows in the pane or groups tabs in settings now ghosts for better reordering usability.
  • Right click menu option in the pane to manually edit the path text.

Changed

  • Settings are grouped into tabs: Groups, Pane, Hotkeys, Connections and Backup.
  • The settings Pane tab is laid out in two columns.
  • Search box, App Folders and Recent Apps each have a checkbox and a place in the section order.
  • The pane's search field matches Explorer's own, with the magnifier on the right.
  • The active profile in settings is marked by a filled Active badge.
  • Larger type and more spacing on the Pane, Hotkeys, Connections and Backup tabs.
  • Section headers show their expand caret without being hovered first.
  • Recent folders open out into their subfolders, and line up with every other folder row in the pane.
  • Programs are shown with the icon and name Windows uses for them, so Chrome Canary is not another row called Google Chrome carrying Chrome's icon.
  • Deleting a group sends it to the Recycle Bin.
  • The mouse wheel scrolls the pane; a sideways swipe, a tilt wheel, or Shift with the wheel scrolls the tab strips and the settings profile columns.
