Release list
Jot 1.6.0
Jot now works properly with a mouse, has real menus, and has a new Settings window. This release also finishes the requests in #12 and fixes two bugs @AB-boi reported. Jot has a website too: lsuryatej.github.io/jot.
New
- Line highlight. A faint band behind the line you're on, including its wrapped parts. Turn it on in Settings › Appearance. (#12)
- Get around with a mouse. The header's note counter is now "‹ 3 of 7 ⌄ ›": the arrows step through notes, and the number opens a list of every note. Your mouse's Back/Forward buttons switch notes, and Shift+scroll or a tilt/thumb wheel does too, every time. (#12)
- Move list items. Press ⌃⌘↑/↓ with the caret in a list item, or drag it by its checkbox, bullet or number. Sub-items move with it, and a numbered list renumbers itself. (#12)
- Menus.
- New Window, Help and Services menus.
- Delete Note (⇧⌘⌫), which ⌘Z brings back, reminders included.
- Bigger / Smaller / Actual Size text (⌘+ ⌘− ⌘0), now up to 32pt.
- The same commands are in the right-click menu and the menu bar icon's menu.
- Move Note is now ⌥⌘↑/↓.
- A proper Settings window, with toolbar tabs. It reopens on the pane you used last, and its height fits each pane.
- Search with the keyboard. In ⌘⇧F, the arrow keys pick a result and Return opens it. Matches are in bold.
- Each note remembers where your caret and scroll position were, for as long as Jot is running.
- Theme notes:
accent:now colours math results, ticked checkboxes and links. It's adjusted so it stays readable on your paper.
Fixed
- Pasting into the ⌘F find bar put the text into the note instead. (#18)
- Symbols your font doesn't have, like
⮑in SF Mono, showed as empty boxes once typed or pasted. They now fall back to another font, as in Ghostty. (#19) - With Caps Lock on, none of Jot's shortcuts worked, and ⌥⌘←/→ never worked from the keyboard at all.
- Screen Edge:
- Cards no longer jump while you scroll, and only the card you're typing in redraws.
- Cards use their note's own font.
- The edge strip no longer steals clicks from other windows.
- The sidebar opens on the display your pointer is on, and the stack fades at the top instead of being cut off.
- Dot and grid paper now cover the strip under the window buttons too.
Accessibility
- Settings opens with nothing focused, so there's no stray focus ring. Tab still moves through the controls.
- The new header controls and search results are labelled for VoiceOver.

Jot 1.5.0
A polish release. Most of it fixes visual bugs reported on the issue tracker, plus a pass against Apple's Human Interface Guidelines so Jot behaves like a native Mac app. Thanks to @AB-boi for the detailed reports.
Fixed
- Multi-line selection (#9). Selections now cover every line at its own height, including Cmd+A across headings. No stray line is left behind after you deselect.
- Pasted images (#10).
- No more blank gap under a pasted image.
- Arrow keys step cleanly over an image, and the caret sits right beside it.
- You can't accidentally type into an image's hidden file name.
- Backspace removes the whole image in one undoable step. From the line below, the first press selects the image and the second deletes it.
- Drag an image's right edge to resize it.
- Headings (#14). Typing
#on a new line no longer throws the caret back up to the previous heading. Headings after the first now get their proper spacing above. - Screen Edge. The sidebar now slides in smoothly instead of popping in, mirroring the way it slides out. A hide during the slide-in no longer brings it back, and the docked sidebar can't be dragged off its edge.
New
- Cmd+B / Cmd+I add or remove
**bold**and*italic*markers (also in the Format menu). - Cmd+click opens links, like Zed and VS Code. A plain click on a shortened link expands it for editing.
- Real bold. Bold text, headings and numbered-list markers use a true Bold face. Some fonts used to get Semibold, and Monaco got no bold at all.
- Images in list items.
- [ ]followed by an image works as one item, with a checkbox that toggles.
Accessibility and appearance
- VoiceOver speaks math results as you type, and has a Results rotor for jumping between lines with results. Images read as "Image", and icon buttons are labelled.
- Readable on every paper. Grey text, the accent colour and the timer chip now meet 4.5:1 contrast on every paper, and go further under Increase Contrast. Header controls, scrollers and the find bar now match a dark or light paper even when macOS is set to the opposite appearance.
- Reduce Motion is respected by toasts and the Screen Edge sidebar. Confetti still plays.
Docs
- The README now documents every feature, with a keyboard shortcuts table and an Accessibility section.
