What's changed

  • First-class Plan and Code interaction modes: Switch between Plan mode for non-mutating research and decision-complete architectural planning, and Code mode for surgical implementation. Toggle modes mid-session directly from the input composer or using the Tab keyboard shortcut on an empty input.
  • Append-only mode transitions and runtime protection: Session mode switches are preserved in history as append-only hidden context notes without mutating system prompts. In Plan mode, agent-initiated file edits, patches, and arbitrary shell executions are strictly blocked at runtime.
  • Enhanced tool schemas and parameter guidance: Refined descriptions and schema validation across filesystem, execution, question, scheduling, web, and multimodal tools, improving model tool selection and parameter adherence across all supported providers.
  • Instruction hierarchy simplification: Retired the legacy freeform "Extra prompt" settings field in favor of canonical global (~/.agents/AGENTS.md) and repository AGENTS.md context files, eliminating prompt cache churn.
  • Deprecated /plan slash command: The /plan command is deprecated in favor of the first-class composer interaction mode.
