Telex 0.9.1
Unread at a glance, account colors on every list, a sixth font
Unread mail stands out at a glance: read mail goes a quieter color, so the bold rows are the new ones. Settings › Appearance › Unread mail also offers unread in the accent color, or bold only as before.
Account colors on every list: with more than one account, an account's folder wears its color the way you chose for the folder list, a line down its rows or a tint, and a dot or its initials above it. Lists that mix accounts keep marking each row.
Search in all mail names the account next to the folder ("Inbox · anna@studio.pl"), so you know which mailbox a message is in.
Settings › Appearance › Message list columns: short or full dates, the Size column and fitting the columns again, besides the right-click on the headings.
A sixth font: Source Sans Light with Source Code Pro, light and airy.
Spelling shows its languages at the end of the compose bar ("EN · PL"): every ticked one is checked at once, and a click there ticks others, turns spelling off, or opens the dictionaries.
No change to the mail base: 0.9.0 and 0.9.1 open the same one.
Telex 0.9.0
Move in from Thunderbird and Outlook, spelling, away replies
Move in from another mail program: Telex finds Thunderbird (and Betterbird, SeaMonkey, Postbox) and Outlook on your PC by itself, in the add-account wizard or Settings › Import and export. Thunderbird brings its accounts with their identities and signatures, the mail it keeps on your PC and its filters, as rules where Telex can do the same; Outlook brings its IMAP accounts and its .pst data files, folder by folder. You type each password once; mail on your servers is downloaded from them, not copied. Doing it again brings nothing twice.
Spelling in the languages you write: Windows' own dictionaries, and for a language Windows lacks, LibreOffice's, fetched only when you click Download and checked before use. Wavy lines in plain text and HTML; right-click a word or press F7 for suggestions, Add to dictionary or Ignore. Quotes, links and addresses are left alone.
An away reply for each account (Settings › Accounts › Auto-reply): on your server where it can hold one (ManageSieve), so it answers while Telex is closed and your own server filters stay; elsewhere Telex answers when it checks. Mailing lists, robots and Spam never get it, and each person gets it once in the days you choose.
Mail files: Outlook's .msg and Apple Mail's .emlx come in too, and Maildir and MH folders.
Safer and quicker underneath: images you load come only from public addresses, checked where Telex connects, four at a time; one Telex runs at a time, so mail can't go out twice; the window never waits on mail work; and if the mail base can't be opened, Telex says so instead of starting empty. Keys work the same with Caps Lock on.
This version adds two tables to the mail base (the away replies); older versions of Telex can't open it afterwards.
Telex 0.8.1
Unread at hand, accounts on every row, five fonts
Unread sits at the top of the folder list: the unread mail of every folder and account in one list, wherever your rules filed it. Mail you read there stays in the list until you leave, so nothing jumps away under you, and Space reads on to the next one.
O shows only the unread mail of the open folder; so does the dot above the list's dots, or "3 unread" in the status bar. O again, or Esc, shows everything. G offers Unread too.
Lists that mix accounts (Unread, all mail, every account's drafts and Outbox) now mark each row with its account the way the folder list does: a line at the start of the row, a tint, a dot or the account's initials, as Settings › Appearance says.
Settings › Appearance › Font: IBM Plex, your system's own (Segoe UI and Cascadia Mono), Classic (Tahoma and Consolas), Inter with JetBrains Mono, or Atkinson Hyperlegible, made for low vision. Each sets the window, the message list and the mono face for dates and writing. All of them work offline.
No change to the mail base: 0.8.0 and 0.8.1 open the same file.
Telex 0.8.0
Sent where your sent mail is, a calmer folder list
Telex finds the folder that really holds your sent mail. When a server marks an empty "Sent" of its own next to the "Wysłane" or "Sent Items" another program filled, the one with your mail wins, and stays Sent from then on. Choose any folder for Sent, Drafts, Archive, Spam and Trash in Settings › Accounts › Folders, or right-click a folder for "Use for sent mail"; your choice stays.
Drafts and the Outbox are no longer folders under every account. What isn't sent yet waits at the end of the folder list, one list each for all your accounts, and only while it holds something. Mail that didn't go shows a red count there and in the status bar; click it to see why.
A calmer folder list: Sent is quieter than the Inbox, and the folders on this PC show Archive and Trash only when they hold mail. Each account's color runs as a line down its folders; Settings › Appearance offers a dot, its initials, a tint or nothing instead.
Slim scrollbars in each theme's colors.
This version adds one column to the mail base (which folder you chose for what); older versions of Telex can't open it afterwards.
Telex 0.7.2
Faster checks, drafts that keep, an Undo you can see
Opening a message in a window of its own (double-click or Enter) could freeze Telex on Windows, with a white window that wouldn't close. It opens at once now.
Checking mail is much faster. Every account is checked at the same time, and server commands no longer wait on the network between them: four accounts on a server across the Atlantic went from about 19 seconds to about 2.
Nothing you write gets lost. While you write, Telex saves the message as a draft every few seconds, so a crash loses little; a draft you are editing stays as it was until you save or send. New, Reply or E in the middle of a message puts it in Drafts first instead of dropping it. Discard can be undone: Z, or the Undo button, brings the message back.
An Undo button in the status bar whenever Z can undo something; for mail you just sent it counts down the seconds left. An account whose last check failed shows a mark in the folder tree and a chip in the status bar with the reason; click it to check again.
Deleting for good in Trash takes two separate presses of Del: holding the key or a double-click no longer counts as both.
Telex 0.7.1
Space for the next unread, a list that fits, search that suggests
Space reads on: it pages down the message, then opens the next unread one, wherever it is in the list. After the last one it names the next folder with new mail, and Space again goes there. Shift+Space pages back, then goes to the previous unread.
Mail counts as read when you say so. Settings › Reading (moved from Mail): as soon as you select it, after it has been on screen for a moment you choose (up to 10 seconds), only when you open it in its own window, or only when you mark it. Click the dot at the start of a row to mark a message read or unread, the flag next to it to flag it; the envelope above a message does the same. Right-click a message, or press Shift+F10, for everything you can do with it, each with its key.
The list's columns fit the window: the date and size are as wide as they need to be, so a date is never cut. Drag the edge before Subject to set From's width, double-click it to fit the names; right-click the column headings for full dates or to hide Size.
Search suggests as you type: your recent searches, people from your own mail, and operators such as is:unread. Enter or the down arrow goes to the results, and what matched is marked in the list.
Put your accounts in your order: right-click one › Move up or Move down, Alt+↑ ↓ on it, or the arrows in Settings › Accounts. Right-click a folder › Keep in view, and it stays out of "more".
Updates can be checked each time Telex starts as well as once a day (Settings › Updates); still never before you say yes. The status bar keeps its keys in the middle, and the list scrolls with less work.
Telex 0.6.0
Folders on this PC, backups, and drag and drop
Folders on this PC keep mail only on your disk, off the server and out of its quota: the archive The Bat! users know. They have their own group under your accounts, with Archive and Trash; make, rename (F2) and remove your own folders right in the tree, with its + or a right-click. Mail moved there leaves the server; moved back, it is uploaded again with its read state and flag. Rules can file mail there from any account.
Any folder saves as an mbox file, and mail comes in from Thunderbird, The Bat! and other programs as .eml or mbox files: choose them from a folder's right-click menu, or drop them on a folder on this PC.
Backups, in Settings › Backups: the whole mail base in one file while you work, by hand or every day or week, into a folder you pick (another disk or OneDrive is best), keeping the newest few. Restoring keeps the mail base as it was next to it, lets the servers' state win at the next check, and moves mail waiting in the Outbox to Drafts so nothing goes out twice. Compact gives the space of deleted mail back to the disk.
Drag messages onto a folder to move them. The folder fills up while you rest on it and takes them only then, so nothing moves by accident; Esc stops, Z puts them back. Resting on a closed account or "more" opens it.
Double-click a message, or press Enter, to read it in a window of its own; reply right there.
Hover the ? at the right of the status bar, or press ? or F1, for every key and the tips that aren't obvious. The message header is easier to read, and the storage bar in the status bar fills in the account's own color and says how much room is left.
This version upgrades the mail base when it first starts; Telex 0.5 can't open it afterwards.
Telex 0.5.0
Attachments, several messages at once, and new mail at once
Attachments open in their own app with a click, straight from the mail base. On Windows they carry the "downloaded from the internet" mark, so Office shows them in Protected View; programs, scripts and macro documents, and anything in Spam, ask for a second click. The arrow next to one saves it, "Save all" saves every one. In a new message, Attach… adds files from this PC, or drop them on the window.
Work on several messages at once: Shift with the arrows, Ctrl+click, Shift+click or Ctrl+A select them, then flag, mark read, delete or move them together. Shift+U marks a whole folder read.
M moves the selection to a folder and G opens one: type part of its name and press Enter. Z undoes a move as well as a delete. T shows the conversation a message belongs to, across folders.
New mail shows up as soon as it arrives (IMAP IDLE), with a notification when Telex isn't the window you're in. Both can be turned off in Settings › Mail.
Undo send: a sent message waits 5 seconds in the Outbox, and Z takes it back. Settings › Writing sets the wait, or turns it off.
Writing: a Bcc field, and addresses suggested from the people you mail with as you type in To, Cc and Bcc. Enter in those fields now picks a suggestion; Ctrl+Enter sends.
The quick filter understands from:, to:, subject:, is:unread, is:flagged, has:file, after:, before:, larger: and smaller:, e.g. "from:anna has:file after:2026-09".
Folders whose older messages were never downloaded say so in the status bar, which fetches them on request. The Rules window can start a rule from the selected message's sender. IMAP accounts can connect with STARTTLS on port 143.
This version upgrades the mail base when it first starts; Telex 0.4 can't open it afterwards.
Telex 0.4.0
HTML compose, dark mail, usage, and Linux
Write in HTML when it helps: the Text | HTML switch in a message gives you bold, italics, lists, quotes and links (Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U, Ctrl+K). Settings › Writing sets what new messages and replies start in. Every HTML message goes out with a plain-text copy, and pasted web pages lose their styles and scripts.
HTML mail follows dark themes: the message's colors are turned around to match the theme, while pictures stay as they are. The sun button above a message shows it on white, as sent, and Settings › Reading can keep all mail on white.
Settings › Usage shows each account's storage on the server (when the server reports it), what takes the space on this PC, 30 days of mail in and out, who sends the most and the largest messages. A small bar in the status bar warns before a mailbox fills up.
Accounts, their servers and identities now live in Settings › Accounts. Settings also has Reading and Writing tabs: trusted image senders, a check before sending without a subject, spell checking.
Telex speaks Polish down to its error messages and notes, and special folders have Polish names.
Linux: an AppImage that updates itself, and a .deb. Passwords go to your keyring (GNOME Keyring, KWallet).
This version upgrades the mail base when it first starts; Telex 0.3 can't open it afterwards.
Telex 0.3.1
Settings, eight themes and Polish
A Settings window (Ctrl+, or the toolbar): theme, language, row height, text size up to 200%, how often Telex checks for mail, when a message counts as read, HTML or plain text, and update checks. Changes are saved as you make them.
Eight themes: Light, Dark, Paper, Heather, Fjord, Phosphor and two high-contrast ones. Every theme meets WCAG 2.2 AA contrast and the high-contrast ones meet AAA. Windows contrast themes and "fewer animations" are respected.
Telex speaks Polish. It follows the Windows display language, or the one you pick in Settings › Language.
Import and export: your settings, rules, identities and account servers in one file, never passwords. Importing shows what would change before anything does.
Big mailboxes stay fast: the message list loads a page at a time, and the quick filter can look in all your mail (Tab).
This version upgrades the mail base when it first starts; older versions of Telex can't open it afterwards.
