@luginf luginf released this 09 Oct 13:53

The D-110 emulator is called Di-111. Download the archive for your system below, and read README.md for the ROM
setup (Roland's ROM dumps are never included).

What's new

  • Tone tab: envelope graphs. Three small graphs (pitch, TVF, TVA) follow the partial shown in full and redraw as you edit it. The horizontal axis is a display scale, not seconds.
  • Tone tab: PARTIAL 1 to 4 are real buttons (click one to show it in full), and the "editing Partial 1 also sets Partials 2-4" note now only appears when LOCK PARTIALS is ON.
  • Easier to read: larger text on the TONE and TONES tabs, brighter secondary text on TONE, TONES, UTILITY and MONITOR, and a lighter dark theme.
  • LCD colours: right-click the panel, then LCD, to pick the display colour (same choices as the JiV-881; Green is still the original green). The choice is saved with the state.
  • AppImage update information is now embedded (AppImageUpdate can use it); the .zsync file is published next to the AppImage.

The new LCD colours were checked on four of them (Green, Red, White-Blue, Black-Green). Please tell me if anything looks wrong on your host or system.

@luginf luginf released this 07 Oct 07:55

The D-110 emulator is called Di-111. Download the archive for your system below, and read README.md for the ROM
setup (Roland's ROM dumps are never included).

What's new

  • Fixed: pitch bend and modulation did not work in VST3 hosts such as Ardour and FL Studio (issue #8). VST3 hosts
deliver them as parameter changes, not MIDI events; that path had been switched off. It is back on, and a stray
Pitch Bend 0 sent by hosts that reset all parameters on load (seen in Carla) is filtered. Standalone was never
affected. This probably also explains a fixed pitch offset reported in Gig Performer.
  • Internals: ROM-free probes now run in CI, comments translated to English, host notes in docs/host_compatibility.md.

Not yet re-verified on every host: please report back on Ardour, FL Studio and Gig Performer.

@luginf luginf released this 02 Oct 10:11

The D-110 emulator is called Di-111 (Standalone binary, window title, plugin bundles, Android app).
Download the archive for your system below, and read README.md for the ROM setup (Roland's ROM dumps are
never included). This release replaces v0.9.5-fixes20.

What's new

  • Fixed: pan was mirrored. On the D-110 a Pan of 7> is hard left and <7 hard right (the opposite of the
MT-32 the sound engine was written for; checked on a real unit and in the manual). Voice and rhythm pans, the factory
patch's fan and MIDI CC10 (0 = left) are now the right way round.
  • The memory card starts seated in its slot instead of lying on the drawer when the window opens. Click the slot
    to take it out.
  • Example song: samples/d110_automne_incandescent.mid in the repository.
  • Fixed: the rhythm part (MIDI channel 10 / R) was silent - the R indicator lit but nothing was heard. On a first
launch the firmware accepted MIDI but played nothing until a power cycle, and a saved memory could hold an empty
Part R record and an all-zero Rhythm Setup. Both are handled.
  • Fixed: front panel and sound dead after STOP then a quick PLAY. STOP no longer clears the voice slots behind the
firmware's back; a last-resort release frees a firmware that stays parked. The DEBUG log (Utility tab) records the
    firmware's state.
  • Sequencer: right-click (or long-press) on STOP or PLAY opens a menu with Panic, a hard panic that also frees a
note stuck in the firmware. PLAY's menu keeps "Play from bar 1".
  • Window resizing fixed: the panel could end up zoomed and cropped when the window was dragged. It now keeps the
whole panel in view, can be made narrower (360 px) and opens at 900 px.
  • Data folder is Di-111 (~/.config/Di-111/, %APPDATA%\Di-111\, ~/Library/Application Support/Di-111/), ROMs in
its roms/ subfolder. Folders used by earlier versions keep working.
  • Linux builds run on older distributions: built on Ubuntu 22.04, they need glibc 2.35 or newer (AppImage, VST3,
    LV2, CLAP and Standalone).

Tip for real hardware: if a D-110 ignores the SysEx of a song (channel map, custom tones, display messages), check
its Exclu Unit# on the SYSTEM page - it must read 17.

D-110 VST + D-50 (preview) 2026-09-03

Choose a tag to compare

@luginf luginf released this 03 Sep 14:24

D-110 VST3/Standalone/AU, Nonet Sequencer, Android app, and - for the first time - the
D-50 emulator, all from main.

D-50 merged into main

The D-50 port (previously a separate d50-preview-1 pre-release) is now part of the main
project. It's a from-scratch reimplementation of the D-50's LA synthesis (not an emulated
CPU, unlike the D-110 backends), ported from Michi71's PicoFaceD5, running against real
Roland ROM-derived PCM data and real factory SysEx patches.

Still an early port - sound accuracy against a real D-50 is an ongoing effort, not yet
considered finished. Standalone only (no VST3/AU), Windows/macOS/Linux. Requires your own
D-50 ROM dumps - see the ROM setup note bundled in the D-50 zips (Roland's firmware is
copyrighted and never included).

Since merging, this build also carries: a real TVF cutoff/pulse-width law fix, a
mono-timbral sequencer, a resizable "patch edit" fold, a Normal/Big font-size option
(shared with the D-110 app), keyboard note-name labels, and a multi-column patch list.

D-110 changes since fixes17

  • Extended editor Tones tab: arrow keys now navigate the 64-slot tone memory grid,
selecting and auditioning like a click.
  • Extended editor Patches tab (PARTS OF PATCH): click a field, then use the up/down
arrow keys to nudge it, the same way the mouse wheel already could.
  • Android Soundbanks view: the trigger button is now a plain press-and-hold-to-play
control; a dedicated PITCH button next to HOLD opens the note-pitch picker instead.

macOS: now a universal binary (Intel + Apple Silicon)

D-110_macos.zip and D-50_macos.zip now each ship one universal .app/.vst3 that runs
natively on both Intel (x86_64) and Apple Silicon (arm64) Macs - no Rosetta needed either
way. Previously arm64-only.

Assets

  • D-110_windows.zip, D-110_macos.zip, D-110_linux.zip - VST3 + Standalone (+ AU on
macOS via the VST3 build tree).
  • D-110_android.apk - Android Standalone app.
  • d110-emulator_0.9.5-fixes18_amd64.deb - Debian/Ubuntu package (VST3 + Standalone +
    Nonet Sequencer).
  • D-50_windows.zip, D-50_macos.zip, D-50_linux.zip - D-50 Standalone, no ROM data
    included (see the bundled README).

No copyrighted Roland firmware or ROM images are included anywhere in this release; you
must supply your own for both the D-110 and D-50 emulators.

D-50 Emulator - preview 1

Pre-release

@luginf luginf released this 03 Sep 11:06

Early preview of the D-50 emulator port (branch d50, not yet merged into main) - Windows and macOS Standalone builds.

No ROM data is included (Roland's own firmware/PCM dumps are copyrighted and cannot be redistributed). See the included d50-roms-README.txt for what to provide and where to put it - the app looks for a d50-roms folder right next to the executable.

This is a from-scratch reimplementation of the D-50's LA synthesis engine (ported from Michi71's PicoFaceD5), not an emulated CPU running real firmware like the D-110 side of this project. Structures, WG/TVF/TVA, the three LFOs, the pitch envelope, chorus/reverb, and real Roland ROM-derived PCM data and factory SysEx patches are all implemented; sound-accuracy work against a real D-50 is ongoing (see d50/README.md / d50/UPSTREAM_README.md in the repo for current status and known limitations).

Unsigned builds - macOS Gatekeeper will block the .app by default (right-click → Open to bypass); Windows may warn via SmartScreen.

Fixes

MIDI Panic now actually clears a stuck note and the Monitor tab's LA32 voice-slot grid, not
just the ones the firmware's own release path already handled on its own. Root cause: the
real firmware needs a per-voice envelope-stage counter to reach 7 before it frees a voice,
and this emulation never paced that - a note could get permanently stuck with no firmware
action left to free it. Panic now force-releases it directly through the same path a real
release would take. (The LCD's own per-part "sounding" indicator is real ROM display code
reacting to the same state and isn't reachable this way - a known remaining gap.)

New

Soundbanks: tones can now be renamed (rewrites the tone's own embedded name, not just the
browser label) or deleted; a "HIDE DUPLICATES" toggle finds the same sound captured under
different names or files across a library; the whole database can be backed up to a zip and
restored from one.

Piano keyboard (desktop): right-click a key for a new "Hold note" option at the top of the
existing menu - sustains that note indefinitely until unchecked again or MIDI Panic clears
it.

Android's Soundbanks view gained a test-note button (press-and-hold plays C3 by default on
the selected Part; long-press opens a slider to change the pitch, with live audition while
dragging) and a HOLD toggle that sustains the test note and retriggers on whatever tone is
auditioned next - that view has no on-screen keyboard, so there was previously no way to
hear a browsed tone without leaving the screen.

Patches tab: right-click a row in ALL PATCHES to send it to the same-numbered slot on a real
connected D-110 (the Patches equivalent of Soundbanks' own "Send to real D-110").

Utility tab's Display Message field gained "Copy SysEx to clipboard".

Assets

  • D-110_linux.zip - Standalone + VST3 + Nonet Sequencer (Linux x86_64)
  • D-110_windows.zip - Standalone + VST3 (Windows x64)
  • D-110_macos.zip - Standalone + VST3 + AU (macOS)
  • D-110_android.apk - Standalone Android app (first release build; sideload, no Play Store)
  • d110-emulator_0.9.5-fixes17_amd64.deb - Debian/Ubuntu package (Standalone + Nonet Sequencer + VST3)

No copyrighted Roland firmware or ROM images are included - you must supply your own Control
ROM and PCM Wave ROM.

Soundbanks: scrollbar/touch-drag/arrow-key list navigation, long-press context menu on Android,
Favorites export as SysEx bank file(s), "Send to real D-110" over external MIDI Out (slot or
Part), a "CHOOSE FILES/FOLDER..." picker directly in the tab plus .zip import, and several
Android layout/contrast fixes.

Sequencer: MIDI export now also asserts each track's MIDI channel via SysEx, so a song exported
with a customised channel map still lands on the right Part when loaded onto a real D-110 with
a different one.

See docs/soundbanks.md and docs/sequencer.md for details.

Windows/macOS: native core (D110EmulatorNative) only, built by CI - see docs/building.md for
the opt-in MAME-backed backend, built locally only.
Android: debug build, not distributed via any app store - see docs/android.md.

New

  • Tone editor overhaul (from user reports on the tracker): PARTIAL MUTE is now four
per-partial ON/OFF buttons instead of a raw 0-15 bitmask, and the PCM field shows the
sample's real name (with a right-click picker menu covering both ROM banks) instead of a
    bare number.
  • MIDI channel handling fixed: with a controller sending different parts on different MIDI
channels, the plugin used to force everything onto one channel by default (a behaviour meant
for a single-channel USB keyboard). Omni is now the default, so external MIDI reaches
each part on the channel it was actually sent on. Still switchable - a new MIDI Channel /
    Omni
entry is on the panel's own right-click menu, alongside a new LA Reference entry
(opens the algorithms/envelopes chart at half the current window's width, without digging
    into the UTILITY tab).
  • LOCK PARTIALS, DEGRADE and RANDOM added to the Tone tab, matching the same "Lock
Partials" feature this project's Edisyn patch editor has: locking mirrors any Partial 1 edit
onto Partials 2-4 live; DEGRADE lightly varies the current tone (a minority of fields, small
steps); RANDOM replaces it outright. Both generators leave each partial's own pitch alone, so
    the result stays in tune/playable.
  • Fixed the extended editor's text shrinking every time PANEL SIZE (UTILITY tab) was
switched to COMPACT, even though nothing about the editor drawer itself got smaller.
  • The Android build is part of this release again (D-110_android_debug.apk, debug/
unsigned - install with adb install or by allowing "install unknown apps").

No copyrighted Roland firmware or ROM images are included; you must supply your own Control
ROM and PCM Wave ROM in ~/.vst3/D-110_Data/ (Linux/macOS Standalone/VST3) or the equivalent
path on Windows. The Android app has its own ROM folder picker (hamburger menu).

@luginf luginf released this 23 Aug 11:32

New

  • Retro sequencer view reworked (the D-20 style LCD+button UI): the D-pad is now a
    proper 2-row grid (BACK/UP/ENTER, LEFT/DOWN/RIGHT) instead of a plus-shaped cross, and the
transport buttons (STOP/PLAY/REC) are a compact square instead of stretching wide. The LCD's
layout now adapts to the window's own aspect ratio - sharing a row with the buttons on a
wide window, or getting its own full-width strip on top when the window is narrow/tall
    (phone portrait in particular).
  • A new OPTIONS > LCD LINES toggle switches the retro LCD between the normal 4 lines and
    a bigger, easier-to-read 2-line mode.
  • Custom D-pad key bindings (OPTIONS > KEY BINDINGS) now actually persist across restarts
    • they used to reset every launch.
  • UNDO/REDO in the retro view now show every pending step as a numbered list, so you can
jump back/forward more than one step in a single press, instead of a single row that could
visually collide a long description with its own label.
  • Quantize mode (Hard/Soft) is now reachable from inside the sequencer itself in both
views (the mouse view's REC MODE popup, and the retro view's own OPTIONS), not just the
    app's outer Options dialog.
  • A real app icon for the first time (Android launcher, and the desktop Standalone/VST3/AU
bundles on Windows/macOS) - the front panel's own "D-110" wordmark, vectorised by hand from
the real photo reference rather than upscaled from a screenshot.
  • The Android build is now part of this release (D-110_android_debug.apk, debug/unsigned
    • no signing setup yet, install with adb install or by allowing "install unknown apps").
Also fixed a real bug there: quitting the app used to silently lose every sequencer song,
since nothing was ever actually saved - it's now backed by a proper state file, saved both
on quit and whenever the app is backgrounded (Android can kill it at any point after that
with no further warning). The retro view's own Play/Stop buttons in the app's outer toolbar
are now hidden when the sequencer's showing, since they control a separate "load an external
MIDI file" feature and read as confusing duplicates of the sequencer's own transport.

No copyrighted Roland firmware or ROM images are included; you must supply your own Control
ROM and PCM Wave ROM in ~/.vst3/D-110_Data/ (Linux/macOS Standalone/VST3) or the equivalent
path on Windows. The Android app has its own ROM folder picker (Utility tab).
