Custom task manager icons

Hi Luis, thank you so much for creating and maintaining this program. I have a question about whether it's possible to add the functionality to change the icons locally in a panel so that it doesn't use the system's native icons. For example, I use the Papyrus icons and I generally like them, but I'd love for the Task Manager (and only the Task Manager) to have a monochrome icon pack applied for aesthetic reasons. Is this possible with Plasma's limitations? I've tried to trick the system in several ways, but the result is far from perfect. The closest I've come is using plasma-panel-colorizer's Effect mode, but it simply desaturates the icon colors, and using symbolic icons in a global icon pack isn't an option for me. I'd like a mix to have some color in the menus.

In the second screenshot, I attached something similar to how I would like the panel to work, but it's not possible without changing all the system icons.

If this isn't possible given plasma's limitations, do you think it would be viable for me to propose this option to the plasma developers?

Hi, I don't think this is possible, I managed to change the icon theme from panel colorizer but the change is at the application level thus it changes the icons for the whole shell (desktop/panels).

The alternative would be to expose a way to do it manually for each icon doable for me but still tedious for the user. Something like that would fit more as a separate task manager widget IMO, mostly because doing it that way there is simply more freedom. Problem is lack of motivation/time/funding to do it

If that is fine for you, you can do this already by adding the following line ~/.config/plasmashellrc:

After doing a little more research I saw that you are right, the most ideal solution would be to have a customized version of the task manager widget and specify an icon theme, maybe on vacation I will inspect the plasmoid source code to see if it is easy to isolate the icons.

In this discussion I found information on how perhaps it could be done provisionally with window rules but I did not try it because creating custom .desktop files and creating a window rule for each application seems like torture and not at all a clean solution, I still attach it because maybe someone will be encouraged to try it. https://discuss.kde.org/t/custom-icons-in-the-task-manager/12628/9
