Release list
Overseer v1.2.0
New
- Overseer now updates itself. When a newer release is on GitHub, a chip in the top bar announces it together with the release notes of every version you skipped. One click downloads the release, installs it in place and keeps your settings and histories. The previous version is stored as a backup and restored automatically if the update fails to start. Read-only installs (e.g. Program Files) get a direct download link instead. Works on both hosts.
Improved
- Cinema 4D and Blender can run side by side: the Blender build now uses its own port (8788), so its web UI no longer collides with a running Cinema session.
Fixed
- Blender: the Selection scope never reacted to what you select in the viewport. Selection is now read correctly through the web API.
- Blender: the Tags health score counted hidden "missing smoothing" items and could show 0 on a scene with nothing left to do. It now only scores what the tab actually shows.
One codebase, two hosts — same web UI and features on both.

Overseer tab. Blender 4.2 LTS+.
Overseer v1.1.0
New
- Blender addon: Overseer now also runs in Blender (4.2 LTS and newer). The same web UI, analysis, naming, layers and asset tools, shipped as its own
Overseer-Blender-v1.1.0.zip. Install via Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install..., then open it from View3D > Sidebar (N) > Overseer. - Visible areas profile (Misc): untick the areas you don't use. They leave the menu, skip their background work and stop counting toward the overall health score. Stored per machine, not per scene.
- Open in browser (Misc): one click opens the same UI in your default browser, for hosts where the embedded window misbehaves (reported on Cinema 4D 2026). Same local server, nothing else changes.
Improved
- Texture thumbnails no longer block Cinema: common formats (JPG, PNG, TIFF and friends) render off the main thread, so the embedded window stays responsive while previews load. Only EXR/HDR and renderer-specific formats still go through the Cinema bitmap engine.
- Third-party renderer textures: texture maps from plugin renderers (Redshift and co.) are now found via their raw shader containers, so the Textures area sees them too.
- Cinema 4D 2026 counts: the Overview now counts generator caches and render instances correctly on 2026.
Fixed
- Freeze when filtering textures quickly: thumbnail loading is debounced and serialized; rapid filter clicks no longer lock up Cinema 4D.
- Endless refresh loops on some setups: normalized document-name comparison, a negative cache for empty material previews and a watcher storm breaker (with a visible pause notice) stop the loop for good.
One codebase, two hosts. Same web UI and features on both.

Overseer v1.0.0
Overseer 1.0.0 — the first stable release.
Keep your Cinema 4D scenes organized — clean names, tidy structure, no dead
weight. Every change is previewed first, applied per row or in bulk, undoable,
and logged.
Tested with Cinema 4D 2023 & 2024.
What it does
- Overview — dashboard with per-area health scores, size trends, a polygon treemap and a texture budget.
- Naming — normalizes names to your convention (casing, numbering, duplicates, kept special characters) with a live preview.
- Translate — rewrites names into your target language, via Google or offline dictionaries, with real source-language detection.
- Layers — gives every layerless object a layer, single or in one batch, and recolors the whole layer stack with an editable gradient — without moving anything.
- Materials — finds unused materials, oversized textures and missing maps — relink via file dialog, copy into the project, shrink in place, or clear dead refs.
- Tags — audits every tag: missing Phong tags, duplicate material tags, phong-angle spread with one-click alignment, and a grouped inventory with unified selection tags.
- Files — inventory of external references (Alembic, caches, IES, audio/video) with search, missing-file relink and accept, and absolute in-project paths made relative per row or in one step.
- Assets — searchable, sortable object inventory with batch actions (assign layer, move to group).
- Generators — compares settings across same-type generators (SDS subdivisions & co.) and aligns them in one undoable step.
- Sims — finds simulation setups that cost you silently: active on hidden objects, unbaked, or disabled leftovers.
- Misc — change history with revert and analysis history per scene.
